The New Zealand Illustrated Magazine.
Head Office - - Auckland. +. placing The New Zealand Illustrated Magazine before the Public, the ffifffl Proprietors have taken into consideration the following facts: — That there is §j|B an often-expressed desire amongst patriotic literary men and general readers <^^ to have a Magazine with a distinctive New Zealand colouring, one which will have for its aims the encouragement of the best Literary and Artistic Talent which we have in our midst ; the expression of opinions on the questions of the day by our most able thinkers ; the preservation of Maori and Pioneer History, which would otherwise be soon lost to posterity; and the reproduction of artistic illustrations of New Zealand Scenery, etc., etc. The New Zealand Illustrated Magazine Company has been formed to supply this need. Similar ventures have been tried, and invariably failed— but why P Because they have not been run on sound business lines; because sufficient capital has not been subscribed ; and last, but not least, because in most cases they expected literary men and women to send contributions for the barren honour of seeing themselves in print. The New Zealand Illustrated Magazine will contain:— Able Articles on Current Topics by Leading Litekaky Men and Women. Original Short Stories. Round the World. Historical and Scientific Papers. Art, Music, and Drama. Poetry. Literary and General Reviews. In the Public Eye. Artistic and Literary Competitions, etc., etc. Sports and Pastimes. Children's Page. Recognising the fact that the majestic beauty and unique diversity of New Zealaud Scenery affords unequalled opportunities to the artist and photographer, as well as the writer of romance, wherever practicable, the stories or sketches will be illustrated by skillful artists ; the object being to place before the public of New Zealand and Australia a publication, the artistic merit of which shall in every way equal its high standard of literary excellence. Having this object in view, the Proprietors do not rely wholly on the patriotism d the public for support, but simply ask for a fair trial, confident that their production will be found a not unworthy compeer of the best English and American Periodicals. The Magazine will be published at 8/6 per annum, payable in advanced Single Copies, 9d.
