DUNEDIN.

June 7. banu., Mrs De Beer, London Street, gave a most enjoyable dance last Friday evening. A large marquee had been erected on the lawn for the occasion, and the decorations were most effectively carried out in red and white. An excellent supper was partaken of in the dining-room. Some of those present, besides Mr, Mrs, and the Misses De Beer, were —Misses Ulrich, Mowat, Todd. Theomin, Hart, Paterson, Carew. Dowling, Finch, Fisher, Allen, Park, Barrow, Moore, Scott, Woodhouse, Ramsay, Isaac, Messrs De Beer, Fisher, Scott, Allen, Callan. Pater- . son, Allsop, Benham, Finch, Borneo (Wellington), Brash, Theomin, Gallaway, Todd, Barron, Reid, Bishop. Afternoon Teas. On'Friday afternoon. Lady McLean gave a small afternoon tea as a farewell to Mrs Wright. Some of those present, besides the Mioses McLean, were Mrs Wright, Mrs McMaster, Mm Black, Mrs Cheeseman, Mrs Norman, Mrs Hudson, the Misses Farquhar, Dowling, M. Dowling, Williams, Webster, Denniston, etc. On Monday afternoon, Mrs Melntcsh, Queen Street, gave a large afternoon tea for her daughter, Mrs John Ewen. Mrs Mclntosh received her guests in the hall, and wore a handsome dress of mole crepe de chine trimmed with touches of pale blue. She was assisted by her daughters. Miss Mclntosh wore a pretty frock of pale blue satin trimmed with ninon to match. Her sister, Miss Gladys, was wearing white. Some very good musical items were rendered during the afternoon by Miss Mclntosh, Miss Dowling, Miss Theomin, and Miss D. Ramsay. Some of those present were Mesdamea Ewen, Theomin, Sise, Blundell, Kain, C. White, Woodhouse, Ramsay, Moore, Hallenstein, Nicol, Buckland, Gallaway, Black, Adam, A. Adams, Stock, Falla. Vivian, Royse, Dodshun, Sinclair, Wright, Haggitt, F. Fitchett, Roberts, Wallis, the Misses Woodhouse, Dowling, Sinclair, McKellar, Harty, Webster, Ramsay, Rattray, Reynolds, Denniston, Royse, Graham, C. Graham, Buckland, Hosking, Hart, 1. Hart, Ulrich, - On Tuesday an enjoyable afternoon tea was given by Mrs Sargood, Marinoto, for Mrs John Ewen. The large hall drawing-room and dining-room were thrown open to the guests, and the lovely flowers which decorated the rooms were much admired by all. Mrs Sargood was becomingly Iressed in nattier blue ninon, Mrs Ewen looked well in a pale blue cloth coat and skirt, with black hat trimmed with natural-coloured feathers. Some of the other guests present besides the Missces Sargood were: Memlames Allen, C. Turnbull, Ward, Vallange, J. A. Johnstone, Stephenson, Sinclair, Blomfield, Graham, Stock, Black, S. Reynolds, Mclntosh, Wallis, Barnett, Thompson, J. F. M. Fraser, 11. G. Hart, Cheeseman, G. H. Hart, G. Roberts, Fulton, Roberts, W. A. Moore, Misses Vallange, F. McLean, Allen, Law, Stock, Woodhouse, Sim, Dowling, Brent, Dunlop, Farquhar, B. Farquhar, Wilson, Haggitt, Webster, Reynolds, Mclntosh, G. Mclntosh, Joachim, Wimperis, Denniston, Hart, Rattray, Stewart. Bridge Parties. Mrs. Woodhouse gave a small bridge party last Friday evening. Muss Sise was the hostess at a small bridge party on Monday, given for Mrs. North.

Races. Dunedin was favoured with beautiful ■weather for the races on Tuesday and AV ednesday. There was a good attendance both days, but only a fair sprinkling of ladies. Some of those I noticed were:—Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes (Timaru), Mr. and Mrs. Orbell (Timaru), Mr. and Airs. Kain (Arrow), Air. Studholme (Waimate), the Alessrs. Elworthy (limaru), Air. and Airs. Acton-Adams, Airs. Hosking. Alisa Royse, Aliss S'se, Air. R. Sise, Air. Hunter'. Air. and Airs. AV. O. AleKellar (Aloeraki Station ). Aliss Finch, Aliss Carew. Ali.ss Sinclair. Aliso Hosking, Air. Pitman, Aliss Ogston. the Alessrs. Kain. Air. and Airs. Ab.irs-Bvres (England), Airs. Finch, Alm. Carr, Mrs. Theoniin, Airs. Barruch (Mell K»urne), Sir George Ale Lean and the Aliases AlcLean, Airs. Stewart, Alisa K. Stewart, Aliss G. AVilliams, Air. Bullock, Air T. Fraser, etc. Personal. Airs Rattray has returned from AVaikouaiti. Airs and Aliss Stock have returned from their visit to Auckland. Air and Airs John Ewen leave by Thursday’s express for Auckland, where they are going to live for six months. The Aliases Shand have gone back to Timaru. Aliss Leslie Le Cren (Fairlie), is at present staying in Dunedin. Air and Airs F. AA’right (Southland) are in town, staying at the Grand Hotel. Airs Blomfield returned from AVellington during the week. Airs North, wife of Lieutenant North, 11.A1.5. New Zealand, is visiting Dunedin, and is staying at AVain’s Hotel. Air and Airs AV. O. AleKellar (Aloeraki Station), are the guests of Airs Finch, Royal Terrace. Airs and Aliss Cutten are spending the winter months in Auckland.
