■May 3. Presentation. . A pleading eprein<>uy wa« performed at the-Albert Hall bn Friday evening by the Deputy Alayor when the presentation of the Education 'Board’s medal wa*s made tci Miss Gwendoline Newman, daughter ,pf Mr and Mrs W. H. Newman, of Taranaki Street. This medal fe annually given by the Board to the most efficient pupil in the whole of the Marlborough district, and that tiie distinctive honour (has come to Picton this year is a compliment to Miss Newman and the headmaster of tiie school (Mr Robinson). Mr (Riddel made the presentation in a felicitous speech, and the recipient gained quite an ovation when she went forward to receive the medal. Children's Entertainment. An entertainment was given in the Albert Hall last Friday night by the children. Mrs A. -1. Bus’ll and Miss R. .Macalister have been drilling them constantly, with the help of Miss Chambens a* accompanist for some time, and they were ably assisted ’by Miets Storey and Miss It la Macalister. The entertainment was organised with the object of augmenting the Holy Trinity Piano Fund, which will lie substantially increased as a result, the door takings 'totalling £2l .14/. An Evening. A pleasant evening was given by Mrs Beauchamp at her home down Waikawa Road last week, in honour of her granddaughter (Mies Annabel Bakcwell), who is to be married at Auckland in a few weeks’ time. Mrs Beauchamp received her guests wearing a pretty dress of black voile, trimmed with black silk; Miss Bakewell was wearing a dainty frock of pale green cashmere. Games were indulged in, ..nd songs were given by Airs Fell and Mies B. Greensill, the same ladies contributing a duet. Those present were: Airs Foster, in a black silk blouse, dark skirt; Mns Fell, pale green lustre; Miss B. Greensill, plumcoloured frock with trimmings of velvet and cream insertion; Mies D. Greensill, white embroidered frock; Mies R. Greensill, pretty white silk blourc 'nd a collar of 'Maltese lace and a cream skirt; Messrs Foster, Fell, Arthur, and Hazlewaod. Personal. Miss Stewart ("Bracside”) has returned to her home after spending a month’s holiday in Christchurch. Miss Pollen (Wellington) is on a short visit to Pieton. Airs Norgrove, who lias been on a visit to Mr and Mrs Petrie, has gone on to Nelson. Mr Edwards, of Nelson, is on a visit to his sisters and brother, Mr G. C. Edwards anil the Missis Edwards, of Waikawa Road. ‘Air Moffatt, who has been some months here, intends leaving on Thursday evening for Wellington, and then goes on to Tasmania. Airs Campbell (Wellington) is on a short -visit to Picton, being one of the judges at the Horticultural Show. Miss La Mont left by the s.s. Araliura last Saturday night for Reeftoil, wherei she is .-.pending a few weeks with her pa rents. Air. IV. Chambers, who lias lieen spending his annual leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chambers, left by the Mapourika on Saturday .night, for 'Wellington. Mrs. Seymour Fell, who has been spending a short visit - with the Misses Murphy, Tua Marina, has returned to Picton. Mr. B. Page, Wellington, is enjoying a holiday as the guest of Mr. IVastnev, -Tlie Rocks.” ■Alns. E. Kenny, "Bridge End,” returned home on Friday after a fortnight’s holiday spent in Wellington. Miss Greta Riley, Blenheim, is on a visit to Picton. Air.-J. Jackson, Cross ( reek, is spending his annual leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, of the Square.

Airs. Hasper left for her home in Feilding last week, after an enjoyable holiday spent in Picton.
