Savu Savu, a New Fiji Port.
This is a characteristic bit of the coastal scenery of Fiji, at Savu Savu, about 100 miles north of Suva. Savu Savu is a new port where the New Zealand steamers now make regular calls. In the old days barques used to go to Savu Savu to load cocoanut oil, and also cotton, which it was at one time thought was going to make the fortune of the colony. A relic of those times is to be found lying about till this day —a pair of heavy stone rollers brought over from New South Wales and used in the crushing of the dry cocoanuts to express the oil.
