February 28. Afternoon Teas. Quite a number of teas have been given recently for Airs. Leatham and her two daughters, who are leaving in Marsh for the Old Country; also for Airs. Fitzlierbert and her two daughter’s, who are leaving New Plymouth for about three or four months. On Monday last Airs. Denny-Brown invited a number of people to an afternoon tea at the Kia Ora. Airs. E. P. Fenton, won the guessing competition, Aliss Loris Fitzherbert coming second. Airs. DennyBrown received her guests in a handsome black satin charmeuse frock, black hat with Lancer plume; Airs. Chaney had an afternoon tea for Aliss Constance Leatham, each person having to represent a book or a song. Aliss Gwen Bewley won the first prize and Miss Alice Brewster the second. Mrs. Chaney received her guests in a very pretty white embroidered silk blouse, white skirt; Aliss C. Leatham, blue and white striped silk dress, blue and white hat; Miss K. Leatham, white muslin; Miss Loris Fitzherbert, white muslin, black hat; Miss Alice Brewster, pale blue crepe, black hat; Aliss Gwen Bewley, blue crepe, black hat with large blue bow; Aliss Midge Glasgow, pink crepe, grey hat with grey roses; Miss Winifred Webster, pale blue poplin, burnt straw hat trimmed pink roses; Mrs. Matthews, Paisley voile, black hat; Aliss Al. It was a glorious day, and everyone spent a most enjoyable afternoon, some playing progressive tennis others bridge, while some amused themselves at a guessing competition. Those who were too lazy to go in for these energetic games had tea in the shade. Airs. Penn received her guests in a soft white insertioned muslin; Miss E. Penn, dainty white muslin; Aliss K. Penn, pale pink crepe. Airs. Percy Webster won the bridge prize, Mrs. Stocker second; Mrs. E. P. Fenton the guessing competition, Aliases D. Simpson and W. Webster carrying off the tennis prize. Personal. Mrs. E. Griffiths is in Auckland on a holiday. Mrs. L. C. Sladden is on a short visit to Mokau. Miss Sorenson, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs. J. Mackay at “Seotlands.” Mrs. Fitzherbert and Miss Fitzherbert leave on Tuesday next on a round of visits, which will extend over several months.

Miss S. Fitzherbert left on Friday to visit her brother at Dannevirke.
