The Summer Show of th? Dunedin Horticultural Society wa* in every way equal to the display made in previous year*. notwithstanding that the wa athe/ iiad been ary thing but favourable for the growth of flowers. In th* champion competition for twelve ro-es. the first prize went to Mr. J. M Laren. of Oaniaru. and no: only was he *uc ■ *sfui here, but hi* collection contained th' tw’o champion blooms a Mr*. L. Maw ley and a Dean Hole. He al* » sh »we I th* White Maman Cochet. Mildred GrantMr*. David McKee, and Lyon roses, in splendid condition. There wa- another table. f> r ex hibition only , shown by Mr. McLaren, o' Oamaru. Air. A. Marshall, of Oamarv. wa.* the tir*t prize-taker for 12 roses, h.p.. and about the l»e*t bloom in hi* box wa* a Frau Karl Dru**hki. In th amateur section. 12 r< >*e*. named varieties. Mr*. L Morgan was the sue cestsful competitor, an I this lady showed a very tine Dean Hole, and gao l B.tty. Madame Constantine Soupcrt. and Captain Hayward iax*e*. The *e.-on I prize went to Mr B. S. Irwin for a b »\ of five blooms, among them being Antoine Revoke. and Albatross. Mrs Morgan wa.again *uwe *ful in the three vaiieiy amateur class, the bloom* looking very like. In the cl a - * six roses, h.p.. th Rev. K. E. Davies exhibit d a beautiful Juliet, which i* a new varitty. In th *pvvial ck ** for the *weete*l rose. Mr L 11. >eidelin won with a -Juliet. In t’.n amateur cla*s. f.» r those who hid n »t ; lev i«»u*l\ won a prize for r«-*e* Mr -John Dagger was placed first, with a General Ma arthui. a Frau Karl Dru* iiki. and a
Lyon rose. Mr IL Bryant being second with a Harry Kirk, a Alls Stephen Tie -eder. and a Joseph Hill. The collection of 24 varieties of cut Howers (amateurl wa- won by Mis J. Peat, the open class l»eing won bv Mr T. Y. Turner, with Mr E. A. Hamel second. The sweet pea cla-ses were not so keenly contested, but .-ome tine b’oomwere shown by the chief prize-winners — Mr E. A. Hamel and Mrs J. McLean. A tine collection of ferns and palm.* was shown by Mr J. Stewart, other prominent exhibitors in thi— section being Alr.Jt ilrev and Mr J. W hyte. The t ibl • decoration (-weet pea- and any foliage! wa- won by Mrs H. T. Trevena. with Mi-.- AL Martin second. In the other cla-s of table decoration, using Howerother than -weet pea-, the priz -winnerwere the -ame. but the name- were reversed.
