The Manawatu Horticultural Soviet v’s show was held last week, and the display was a very good one. rose- particularlv being very tine. During the past year the society has been very active, the membership roll having been raised from SO to 200 —an exceedingly line performance. I his increased membership was followed by a bigger entry of flowers and plants, and also by an increased public interest. Reference was made by the
Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash) and Mr. 1). Buick. M.P.. to the excellent recovery the Society had made, and also to the valuable work accomplished hy the secretary. Mr. F. O. Ames. The Jarvis rosebowl for a collection of roses, twelve varieties, hybrid- or teas, was won by Mr. F. J. Nathan, with Mr. I. R. ForsterPr.it. -econd. The champion Idoom was ixhibited by Mr. J. R. Forster-Pratt. In the classes for pot plants. Bradfield Bro-.. Mrs. L. R. Abraham. Mrs. R. McKenzie. Mrs. A. Kingsbeer. and Mr. F. I. Nathan were prominent prize-winners, in the decorative classes Mrs. F. M. Garner was awarded first prize for her bowl of roses: Miss ’*,. McKeeman first for a hat trimmed with native flowers. The last-named lady was successful in tin competition- for an original floral *le-ign. ami a ba-ket of flowers. Mrs. G. F. Deeley won tin* buttonhole, lady s -pray ami shower bouquet cla--e-.
