STRATFORD.
December 6. Sale of Work. A sale of work in connection with Holy Trinity Church was held at the Parish Hall on Tuesday. The sale was opened by Mr. Hine, M.P. The attendance Was considerably affected by the rain, which continued all day. Despite the drawbacks, the takings at the various stalls were very satisfactory. The stallholders and their assistants were: Mesdames Robson, Hudson, Prentis, Reader, Andrew, Stubbs. Partridge, Kivell, Crawshaw, Tyrer, Misses Butler, Worthington, James, leagel, Johnston, Lawrence, and Freer. Among those present were: Mesdames Fookes, Young, Porritt, Lampin, Budge, Anderson, Wake, James, Robinson, Rennell, and others. Tennis. The weather conditions were such as allowed a pleasant afternoon to be spent on the Stratford courts on Thursday afternoon, when the Stratford and Eltham clubs played the first match of the season. The games were well contested, and resulted in a substantial win for Stratford. The visitors included: Mesdames Eggers, Bennett, Misses Murray (2), Taylor, Messrs. Haden, Poynter, Baker, Jenkins, Taylor, Campbell, Caverhill, and Nixon. Surprise Party.
A walking pnrty, which terminated in a surprise party upon Mrs. Crawshaw,
happened on Tuesday evening. The company included Misses Wake (2), Munro, James (2), Trimble, Messrs. McAlister, Clouston, Janies (2), Croker, Jones, Crawshaw (2). Personal. Miss Lucas (Nelson) was a passenger by the mail train on Monday for Wellington. Mrs. Vaughan, who has been spending a holiday in Australia, returned to Stratford on Saturday.
Miss Hanby is visiting her sister, Mrs, E. C. Robinson. Mrs. Hogg is visiting friends at Masterton.
