December 5. There have been quite a number of social and school events within the last week. Mrs. C. Pharazan "gave a small party, and Mrs. Cato entertained a number of juveniles at her charming new residence, Mahora. Ou Monday night St. Matthew's Hall was crowded on the occasion of the Trillion school (Miss Wilson) concert. The concert was much enjoyed by those present. On Tuesday the Trinton seh-00l athletic sports were held on the Racecourse. The day was beautifully fine, and many people were present. Delicious afternoon tea was dispensed in the luncheon rooms on the course. Mrs. Broeklehurst presented -the prizes. At Home. Last Friday night the gentlemen of the Hastings Club gave an “At Home" to the ladies. Besides competitions, which were entered into with much spirit. Mr. Seott Leslie and Mr. MeAvery gave various comic items, and Mrs. Didsbury (Napier) sang. After the usual sumptuous supper, dancing was kept up till the small hours. Some of the ladies present were: Mesdames Nairn, Faulk - nor, Lewis, Macfarlane, Mason, Mackersey, Cato. De Lisle, McKibbin, Miller, Pharazan, Williams, Nelson, Turner, Lowry, Chambers, Hassal, Macniven, Hill, Lanauze, McLean, Seal, Tipping, McLeod, Landels, Murray, Wallace, Brodie, Gordon. Hoadley, Overton, Tosswill, White, and many others. A Concert. A concert in aid of St. Matthew's building fund was held on Wednesday evening. There was a fair audience, and the stage was very prettily arranged as a garden scene. Mrs. Wood organised a small musicale for the first part, entitled “A Persian Garden.” Mrs. Wood is a most accomplished pianist, and much of the success of the performance was duo to her delightful music. Mrs. Dudley Hill, who wore a smart gown of white

silk veiled in black net, sang two very pleasing items. The ladies and gentlemen taking part in the “Persian Garden” were Mesdames Macduff, Boyd, Didsbury, (Napier), Miller, Murray, Brodie, Misses Gray (2), Baird, Messrs. Woodward, Nelson, Vickers, and Nelson. Mrs. Miller was in a soft black silk; Miss Baird, cream froek veiled with blue ninon; Miss Gray, soft peach ninon; Mrs. Brodie, a pretty pale blue charmeuse; Mrs. Didsbury (Napier), white and pink shadow ninon; Miss — Gray, white silk. In the second part Mrs. Lewis, assisted by Mr. J. Fraser and several juvenile amateurs, performed several scenes from “Twelfth Night.” Mrs. Lewis wore an. Elizabethan gown of grey silk, and acted with her usual grace and vivacity. The costuming of the juvenile performers was bright and suitable. Amongst the audience were: Mesdames Nairn, Pinckney, Landels, McKibbin, Seott, Luckie, Hill, Hudson, Macdonell, McLeod, Faulknor, Coleman, Misses Lee, Baird, Burton, Gill, MeLean, Luckie, and others. Personal. On Wednesday afternoon a very pleasant little function took place on the Bowling Green, wflien Mr. Pegler, on behalf of the ladies of the Croquet Club, presented Mrs. A. Pollock with a silver vase on the eve of her departure for Wellington. Mrs. Pollock thanked the ladies for their handsome present. Mrs. Pegler dispensed afternoon tea. Miss Marjorie Wheeler has returned from a trip to Christchurch, where she was bridesmaid at the wedding, of her brother, Captain Wheeler, to Miss Rita Russel.

Mrs.' (Dr.) De Lisle left for the South, on Thursday.

Miss V. Russel has returned from the South.

Mrs. T. C. Williams (Wellington), who has been the guest of Lady Russell, “Flaxmere,” returned to Wellington tihis week.
