November 23. Horticultural Show. The summer show of the Horticultural Society took place on Thursday last in the Skating Rink. As the attendance was very small, especially early in the afternoon, there was no official opening, though the Mayoress (Mrs. Manning) was present, as requested, for that purpose. The building was well adapted to the purpose, but was most uncomfortably hot, as was witnessed by the flowers drooping away very quickly. Among those present were: —Mrs. Douglas, the wife of the president, in brown costume, hat with red flowers; Mrs. Bollard, in pretty champagne poplin costume, navy hat with red; Mrs. T. Jolly, floral muslin frock, hat; Mrs. Burley, Mrs. Valder; Miss Watty in cream frock; Miss Kibblewhite; Mrs. Manning in charming grey striped toilette with cream net fichu and tiny frills and touches of pink, large hat; Mrs. Brewis, in pretty navy satin foulard gown, tricolour hat with pink roses; Mrs. Going, stylish cream frock; Mrs. Rogers, dark frock, big blaek hat; Mrs. Scott, whito gown with lovely guipure, navy and white hat; her sister, navy costume, black hat; Mrs. Gilfillan, blue cloak, black hat; Mrs. Glennan (Melbourne), handsome black silk, heavily embroidered in jet, black and whito toque; Mrs. Watts, maize-coloured bengaline costume, hat to match; Mrs. Grey, dark costume; Mrs. Bur ugh, navy silk; Mrs. A.
