November 22. Afternoon Tea. We have had a very quiet week, or, what seems to be so, after the numerous and varied gaieties of Carnival Week. The only- social function I have heard of was an afternoon tea which ■was given by Mrs. Leopiard Harley on Tuesday- at her residence, Holly Road, •St. Albans. Those present were: —Mrs. Henry Wood, Mrs. T. Cowlishaw, Mrs. J. Palmer, Mrs. C. Cooper, Mrs. Godby, Afrs. Beals, Mrs. Milton, Mrs. Courteney Nedwill, Mrs. W. Day-, Mrs. Frank Cowlishaw, Mrs. J. Turnbull, Mrs. P. WynnWilliams, Miss Harley, and Miss WynnWilliams. A Dance. A small dance was given last Tuesday at “Elmwood” by- Mrs. George Rhodes. The guests included: Mr. and Mrs. W. Bond, Mr. and Mrs. Cordner, the Misses Clifford (2), Miss Rhodes, Miss Bowden, Misses Ogle, Burns, Buddle, Ewen, Roise and Anderson, Messrs. Rhodes, Wright, Brittain, Onslow, Anderson and Nancarrow.

Personal. Mins Buddle (Auckland), who has been staying in Christchurch, returned North last week. Mr. and Mrs. Cordner (Timaru) have been spending a few days in Christchurch. Mrs. Palmer, “Woodford” (Papanui Road), has returned to Christchurch from England. Mrs. Gordon (Hutt) is the guest of Mrs. I. Deans (Home Bush). Mrs. Withnell and Mrs. Beckett (Christchurch) are staying at .Sumner. Miss B. Pyne (Christchurch) ia the guest of Mrs. Sinclair-Thompson at G eraldine. Mrs. Aufrere Fenwick (Dunedin), who has been spending a short time in Christchurch, has returned to the South. Mrs. W. Stringer (Christchurch) has left for Australia to meet one of her sons, who is returning from England. Mr. and Mrs. George Rhodes (Claremont) have returned to Christchurch from England. Colonel Beech and Miss Beech (England), who have been staying with Captain and Mrs. Onslow (Opawa), left Christchurch on Thursday for Sydney. Mrs. T. Rhodes and Miss Rhodes (Christchurch) have gone to Timaru for the races. Miss Cracroft 'Wilson (Christchurch) is staying in Timaru. Mrs. Barker (Christchurch) has gone to Wanganui, to be present at the marriage of her niece. Mrs. Morris left Christchurch this week for Auckland. Mrs. Nancarrow (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs. Donald McLean (Mt. Hutt).

Professor Wall and Mrs. Wall (Christchurch) are spending a few days in Wellington.
