NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.

Tt Is announced this week that Captain T. If. Bax, N.Z. Mounted Rifles, during his stay in England, meant to try to put up a world's record for club swinging, amt began the attempt at the Masonic Hall, Southend, on September 10th. From 12 o’clock noon that day lie hoped to continue swinging until 8 p.m. on September 14th, but gave up the attempt after 30 hours, as there was no audience. He intends to leave for New Zealand on October 10th.

.Sir Ronald Gray. of Wellington, son of the late secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, arrived in Dondon recently, ami will stay for about a year studying electrical and mechanical engineering.

Mrs Grace Matthews, of Dunedin, who has been re-visiting the Dominion, has recently returned to England, and is now living with her mother at Sandford, in Hampshire. Air and Mrs Barker, of Gisborne, who have been over here since the beginning of the year, and spent most of their holiday in Ireland, return to New Zealand to-day by the Otway. Mr. Norman Perston, of the Bank of New Zealand, Sydney, and Miss Perston, wbo have been over here for four months, have gone to the Continent, and will leave for home from there, arriving at the end of October.

Sir James Mills, of Dunedin, who has been staying in Scotland, has now returned to London.

Mr and Mrs Geo. Brown, of Nelson, arrived in May, via South America. They have so far visited Scotland, the North of England, ami the Midlands, ami now leave for the Continent. They sail for home by the s.s. Osterley. .Miss Kershaw, M.A.. of the Ashburton High School, is going down to Ashburton

(iu Devonshire) to make a presentation from the New Zealand to the English school. Since her arrival in May, Miss Kershaw has toured England and Scotland, and hopes to visit Paris before leaving again in October. Miss P. Illingworth, of Christchurch, is at present staying with her brother iu Yorkshire for a few weeks. After a short stay in England she went to America on a visit to a sister and some friends, and then returned here. She expects to go back to New Zealand via Cape Town before the end of the year.

Mr Fredk. Holmes, of Christchurch, arrived here in June on a motor cycling tour of England. He has so far covered three thousand miles from London to the Lakes district and back, and then to the south of Devon. He goes to Norwich and Yorkshire before sailing for New Zealand by the Osterley in October.
