October 19. Rowing. Last Saturday afternoon there was a large attendance of the publie present at the official opening of the Blenheim Rowing Club. The vice-president (Mr. S. Florance) apologised for the absence of Mr. R. McCallum, M.P. (president of the elub) before declaring the season open. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. Corry) also spoke a few words. A dainty tea was provided and dispensed by the lady friends of the members of the elub. During the afternoon music was supplied by Ferry’s orchestra. Among those I noticed present were:— Mrs. R. McCallum, Mrs. W. E. Cloustqn, Mrs. J. Corry, Mrs; Innes, Mrs V. Powell, Mrs. McKinley, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Buist, All’s. Dunean. Mrs. ,J. Teshemaker-Shule at “Avondale,” in honour of her sister (Miss E. Dillon). A dainty tea was served on the verandah. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. ('. XVtats, “Lansdowne,” Mr. and Airs. F. At the Tneatre. “The Daiioies” had a most succcsstul two-nights season in His Majesty’s Theatre. Among the audience I noticed: Mr. and Mrs. 15. Clouston, Mrs. W. Clouston, Dr. and Mrs. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. A. Bell, Miss Greenfield (Wellington), Misses Chaytor (3), Miss McKenzie (Dunedin), Miss Easter, Misses Clouston (2), Misses Neville (2), Mr. and Mrs. Welsh, Mr. and Mrs. Corry, Mr. and Mrs. C. Murray (Wharinui), Dr. and Mrs. Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. L. Griffiths and Miss B. Griffiths, Mr. and Mrs. Powell, Mr. and Mrs. Austin, Mrs. Cudden, Mr. and Miss Brittain, Dr. and Mrs. Walker. Miss Greenfield (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. Adam Bell, “Riverlands.” Mrs. Waddy (Palmerston North) is visiting her daughter, Mrs. L. Griffiths, “Springlands.” Miss Seymour and Miss Wilson, who have been staying with Mrs. Neville at “Thurston,” have returned to Wellington. Misses Skinner (2) have returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mrs. S. Neville left on Tuesday for Palmerston North. Mrs. W. Clouston has gone across to Wellington for a few days. Mrs. B. Monro, ‘‘Bank House,” is in Wellington. Miss Dillon, who has been the guest of Mrs. C. Teschemakcr-Shute, has returned to Wellington. Dr. and Mrs. Bennett left on Tuesday for Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. R. Bell have gone to Auckland and Rotorua for a holiday. Mr. and Mrs. J. White have gone to Nelson.
