September 21. Children’s Party. Mesdames Smith juid Haslett. Waikawa Road, gave a children’s party on Tuesday, when music ami games were very enjoyable. In addition to the hostesses there were present Mesdames Jlill, Beswick, Fisher. C. Philpotts, Scott, J Alcona. Burgess, Nicol, Kenny, Haughey, Messrs Burgess, Fisher, and Al inns. Misses Kenny (2), Philpotts (2), Haslett, Beswick, Bakewell, Goodall, Greensill (2), Arthur. Scott, Nicol. Haughey. Masters Nicol, Burgess (3). Lucena (3), Scott (2). Nicol, Goodall; Fisher, Kenny (3). The Bishop Welcomed.
The new Bishop of the diocese. Dr Sadlier, was given a civic reception on the occasion of his visit to this portion of his diocese. The Mayor of Picton was in the chair. There were a good many people present, and Bush’s band contributed to the programme, which consisted of speeches, songs and other items. Aliss (. hambers played the accompaniments. The ladies’ committee for the supper and general supervision were Mesdames Smith, Vickers, Beswick, Cragg, Jackson. Madsen, Nicol, Haslitt, Redman, Lucena, and Misses Harris, Burton, Greensill, Philpotts and Dart.
Personal. Air A. I*. Seymour and Miss Seymour, pho have been away louring Australia for a month, returned home on Monday. The Hou. Air Fisher. Minister of Ala line, paid a week end visit to Marlborough. He was accompanied by Mr R. McCallum.
Mr G. J. Kiddell has been appointed president of the Picton Rowing Club. All the other officers were je elected with complimentary references to their excellent management.
