THE LITTLE RED BOOK.
The Roaring Lion was a very bold and dashing person, and he used to roar with bis mouth and dash with his tail so much, that all the other animals did not know whatever to do. And the Roaring Lion made a rule that every animal that lie met should bow down very low with his head, and he said that if they didn’t he would eat them ail up until there weren’t any of them left. 'o the Great ’ Elephant ami the Tiger and the Bear and all the other anima’s
were verv frightened, and they al! ttse.l to bow down very low whenever the Roaring Lion happened to pass. But the Brown Fox was very elever, and lie told everybody that he wasn’t going to bow down to anybody. And al! the other animals looked very surprised. I it the Brown Fox didn’t mind a l.it. And he always arried about with him a very funny looking red book. And one day. right out in the middle of the woods, he met the Roaring Lion, and he put his head far up in the ai-r, and he didn’t bow down at all! Then the Roaring Lion looked verysurprised, and he got ready- very quickly to eat up the Brown Fox.
Bat the Brown Fox was very elever, and ne opened his little red book and he read or.-t a lot of funny sounding words. For the little red book was a less-on book on Alagie. and the Brown Fox had been learning very .-arefully bow to give pei-ple very l<ad eolds -o that they would sneeze for days and days. so that directly the Brown Fox sail those funny sounding words the Roaring Lion began to have a very bad ■ old. ami he began to sneeze so dreadfully that he went straight liai-k to his house and put himself to lied, and he .'iieezed and -neezed for days and days and days. And presently lie got out of bed and lie shook hand* with the Great Elephant and the Tiger and the Brown Fix and all tiie other animals, ami he -aid that hr was very sorry ami that he didn’t ever want to try to eit anybody again, because it gave him such a dreadiful cold. And he told them that they needn’t bow down to him any more. And the Brown Fox Uuglied to himself ami went on learning the magic.
