PALMERSTON NORTH.

July 20. Club Ball. The club ball dield at the Opera House on Tuesday night last was a brilliant success, and largely attended. The whole of the Opera House had been engaged for the occasion. The Municipal Hall was used as the ballroom, and was beautifully decorated in deep rose pink and white, soft draperies in those shades, intermingled with many large mirrors, made a pretty setting for the lovely frocks won by the guests. The four corners of the room were cut off with a white trellis, ornamented with maiden hair fern, and Used as quiet nooks for sitting-out. The vestibule, staircases, and landings were carpeted in crimson, with palms, bamboo, and other greenery arranged everywhere possible. Supper was served on the stage on tables for four, six, eight, and so on. Here, again, the decorations were in rose pink and white, the electric lights softened "ith different coloured bead shades. Then there were cardrooms, smoking-rooms, and the body of the Opera House was used for sitting-out between the dances. Senall's band supplied splendid music, and the floor was in perfect order. Mr H. Williamson, a pink charmeuse toilette, with band of silver and grey pink ospreys in her hair; Mrs Whittaker, white lace robe over white satin, Mrs Coombs, grey satin, with blaek ninon tunic, ninon and jet on corsage; Miss Coombs, a pretty frock of champagne charmeuse, the bodice and tunic of ninon in the same tone, finished with jewelled trimming; Mrs Warburton, soft blaek satin, with gold beaded embroidery’ on corsage; Miss Warburton, pale blue satin; Mrs Morrah, pale blue taffeta, with overdress of dewdrop white net, the draperies eaught with old gold roses; Miss Morrah, pale cream charmeuse, with cream ninon tunic, the bodice embroidered with silver beads, pink roses in her hair; Mrs G. Moore, rose pink charmeuse; Miss Moore, white satin, with ninon tunic and silver trimmings; Mrs Gillespie (Feilding), rose pink satin, with black ninon tunic, the bodice veiled in the ninon; Mrs R. Davis, mauve satin, with a blue ninon tunic, silver trimming finishing corsage; Mrs A. N. Gibbons, mauve satin, veiled in net of same shade, touch of pink on corsage; Airs Tripe, blaek velvet, with opal embroidery: Mrs E. W. Hitehings (Levin), white satin and lace, cluster of crimson flowers on bodice; Mrs McDondell, fuchsia red charmeuse. with tunic and bodice of fuchsia blue ninon; Airs. Putnam, royal blue satin, with ninon of same shade; Airs Millton. blaek velvet, with black sequined net bodiee and tunic; Aliss Sybil Abraham, a becoming emerald green frock, the tunic finished with gold fringe, fringe at the waist, and she wore gilt shoes: Miss Sylvia Abraham, eream satin, with tangerine sash; Airs. A. Barraud, white satin, with tunic of white net richly embroidered in silk; Mrs Jack Gaisford (Rangitikei), rose pink charmeuse; Airs. Mrs. E. W. Hitehings (Levin) was the guest of her sister, Airs. J. R. Tripe, for a few days last week.

Aliss Tripe has gone to Wellington on a short visit.

Visitors to Wellington from here for the races and race ball included Air and Mrs Goring Johnston, Air and Airs T. Williamson, and Airs. H- Cooper. Airs O. Porritt is in Wellington.
