June I. Afternoon Tea. A large and very enjoyable farewell tea was given by Mrs. G. Kerr at the "Haeremai” for Miss Jean Hamilton, whose marriage takes place shortly. An amusing missing proverb i-ompetit ion proved very entertaining. The prizes were won by Mrs. AA’. Houlker. jun., and Mrs. Dodson. The ilaint v tea tables were decorated with yellow suntlowtjrn and autumn leaves. Mrs. Kerr was wearing a pretty gown of amethyst taffetas, with yoke of Paris net, black laee hat with plumes; Mrs. Hamilton, sen., black voile costume, black feathered hat; Miss Jean Hamilton, navy tailormade, blue satin hat; Aliss May Hamilton, cloth eoat and skirt, black hat; Mrs. Fred. Hamilton, dark doth tailor made, felt hat cn suite; Mrs. C. Hamilton, grey tweed, grey hat with white wings; Mrs. Dodson, grey checked costume; Mrs. Boyd, blaek cloth coat and skirt, smart black toque, sable furs; Mrs. W. -Rout, blaek costume, hat with white ostrj'h feathers; Mrs. Burner, navy serge coat and skirt, large black hat; Airs. E. Moore. grey tweed; Mrs. Ho'by, velvet frock, tagel hat with lancer plumes; Mrs. Washbourn, rod cloth coat and skirt, Tuscan hat; Mrs. D. Edwards, pale blue satin cloth, black plumed hat; Mrs. AV. Houlker. jun., pink pastel frock, blaek hat; Mrs. ('. J. Harley, mole velvet gown, violet hat: Mrs. Thomas Hamilton, blaek doth tailor made, small black hat. Others present were: Mrs. Drew, Afrs. and Aliss Tomlinson, Miss Bleehynden, Alisses Maginnity, Misses ( lark, Aliss Houlker, Aliss D. Webb, Miss A. Dodson, Miss Langley, Adams, Miss F. Cosier. During the afternoon the guests were entertained with a dever guessing competition, which was won by Afrs. Harrison, with Miss Bamford second. Mrs. Tatton wore a blaek velvet gown; Mrs. Coster, blaek silk and lace; Miss P. Coster, green taffetas. Some of those present ware: Misses F. and V. Coster, Afrs. and the Misses Hamilton, Mrs. Harrison, Miss Sutherland Smith, Mrs. Claude Hamilton, Mrs. Kelling, the Misses Wright, Miss Gladys Adams, Miss Dolly Webb, Mrs. G. Kerr; Mrs.' AV. Houlker, jun.. Miss Bamford, the Misses Hair. Personal. Mrs. and Miss Sdandcrs have gone for u lengthy visit to Woodville and Christ church. Mrs. Hodson has returned from Blenheim. ■ ■ . • Dr. and Mrs. W. G. Hill have arrived from England, ami intend settling in Nelson. Dr. Nutting has gone to AVettington for a short visit. The death of the Rev. John Crump occurred in Nelson on May 28 th. The late Air. Crump was a widely-respected Methodist minister, and a well-known man throughout the Dominion, haring •been connected with the AAesleyan diurdies in Manukau, Auckland, Canlerburv, Otago, and Nel-on.
