JULIET CAPS WITH GOLD TASSELS.
In summer, fashion always dedicates herself to the service of youth.
This year at all events there can be no complaint of lack of variety or limitation of choice in style, colours, or materials. Never was there a more lavish display of pretty things from which to select, and due appreciation of the little adjuncts of the toilette will go a long way towards bringing down the dress budget to reasonable proportions.
AN IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION Among the plethora of pretty things this season it i» a decided temptation tu buy much and lavishly. Every item should, however, be chosen with a distinct and definite idea of tho particular costume with which it wii'l be worn. The whole aspect of a gown can lie made or marred by the addition of a new frill or tichu or even a collar of a different pattern —and this is no trilling matter when one entertainment follows rlo«o on tho heels of another, ami tho resources of the most ample wardrobe ar® severely taxed. NEW JABOTS. There are, besides, indications thgt the low-cut, callarless neck is going out of favour. The new jabots—and especially the graceful Georgian fall of lace—* necessitate a neck band, and the latest collar, an all-roundl Toby frill of pleated lace, is mounted on a narrow guipure insertion. There are. Ix'-ddes, dainty collars of real hue and Irish crochet, and high necked I lon i ton examples which almost cover the shoulders and form a. decided square back and front, not to speak of the hundred?* of pretty black and white collars embroidered here ami there in gold or aluminium thread. The Peter Pan voila r is too becoming to be lightly abandoned, but it fits well round the neck, ami in its latest development is
carried out in line white or cream linen embroidered in coloured silks.
Butterflies of all descriptions are immensely popular, and the butterfly poised on the hair is becoming as much in vogue as it was in the nineties, fheso trifles are either fashioned of velvet bordered with a gleaming row uf paillettes, or in metal tissue or lace. Black nr white lace butterflies mounted on coloured chiffon have a charming effect, the little touch
of colour just visible .through the meshes of the dentelle providing a great addition to tho coiffure, while the widespread l*aco wings give a much lighter effect than tho velvet.
