January 19. A Small Bridge Party. A small bridge party was given by Mrs. C. Reid (Merivale) in honour of Miss Symes. The players included Miss Symes, Miss Wilson, the Misses Humphreys, Miss Denniston, Miss Thomas, Miss Ogle and MisS Harley. The charming little prize (a blue enamel box) was won by Miss Denniston. An Afternoon Tea. An afternoon tea was given by Mrs. Arthur Reeves (Merivale). Amongst the guests were Mrs. Turrell (Wellington), Mrs. Denniston, Mrs. Henry Cot-

terill, Mrs. Von Haast, Mias Ilennab, the Misses Reeves (2), Cotterell (2), Mrs. R. Westenra, Mrs. George Helmore, Mrs. Randall, Miss Helmore, and Miss Denniston.

PenonaL Mrs. Charles Clark returned to Christchurch last week from a visit to England. Mrs. Beswick (Christchurch) has returned from Timaru.

Miss Hertstel (Dunedin) is the guest of Mrs. Orbell (Cashel-street, Christchurch.) Miss Nancarrow (Christchurch), is staying with Mrs. D. McLean (Mt. Hutt.) Mrs. H. H. Loughnan and family (Christchurch), are camping at the Rakaia.

Mrs. Courtney Nedwill (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs. Kilian (Clent Hills.) Miss Woodhouse, who has been staying with friends in Christchurch, has returned to Dunedin. Mrs. Gerald Stead, who has been staying at Sumner with Mrs. G. G. Stead, lias returned to Brackenfield. Mrs. Maurice Turrell and Miss Cotterell, who have been spending a few weeks in Christchurch, have returned to Wellington. Mrs. Wanklyn (Christchurch) is staying with friends in Gisborne. Mrs. Arthur Quartley (Auckland) is the guest of Miss B. Russell (Christchurch. ) Captain and Mrs. Onslow (Opawa, Christchurch), have left for Wellington.

Mrs. and the Misses Tween (Wellington), are spending a week at New Brighton.

Mrs. and Miss Pyne (Christchurch) are staying at Sumner. The Misses Anderson (Christchurch) left this week for Auckland, where they intend to spend some time.
