January 20. Afternoon Teas. A number of afternoon teas have been given this week as farewells to Miss Winifred Cock, whose wedding takes place in a few days. Mrs. Sclanders avas the hostess at a very pleasant, little function on Wednesday, and those present enjoyed the gathering very much. Afternoon tea was served outside, and several competitions and outdoor sports amused the guests, the Misses Maginnity and Cock being successful in carrying off the prizes. Mrs. Sclanders wore green net over silk; Miss .Sclanders, white muslin frock; Mrs. Kissl'ing l(Man-aia), cream serge tailormade, hat with roses; and Miss Richmond, a cream cloth gown and a flowered hat. Among others present were: The Misses M. W. and G. Cock, Miss F. Richmond, [Miss ■Ward (Wellington). Miss Blackett, Miss Houlker, Miss D. Webb. [Misses Maginnity, and Miss J. Tomlinson. Another “farewell” tea was the garden party given by Mrs. C. 11. Clark at licit residence. “Raj-pootana,” when there were a large number present. Mrs. Clark was wearing black silk, small biack and white hat; Misses Mary and Frames Clark, white inserted muslin frocks, pale blue tulle hats; Muss Gertie Clark, blue striped silk frock, black hat With cluster of pink roses; Mrs. Macquarie, rich black satin, black liat; [Misses Cock, white muslin frocks; Miss Cock, royal blue satin, toque en suite; Mrs. Boyd, handsome black lace gown, black toque; Mrs. Coote, grey voiie soutaelied, grey hat with mauve ribbon; -Mrs. Coote (-England), black silk ninon over save blue silk, smart black hat wRh gold galon; Mrs. E. Webb. Personal. Dr. and Mrs. Bett have, returned from the Wairarapa. Dr. and Mrs. Gibbs have gone to Wanganui. Mrs. Houlker is away in Wellington. The Rev. and Mrs. Coote have arrived from England, and are staying wiith Mr. and ills. C. 11. Coote, at “Mountrath.”
