January IL Lawn Tennis. No matches were set down for play on Saturday last, but a good many members turned up for practice play. Tea was dispensed by Mesdames Hodges and Blair. Amongst those present were: Airs. Frank Barker, who wore a white muslin, beautifully worked with embroidered roses, white muslin hat to match; Mrs. F. Traill, white linen corselet- dress .straw hat trimmed with bunches of apples and blue ribbon; Airs. Blair, dark green linen, with yolk and sleeves of white embroidery, black picture hat; Airs. C. Fenwick, maize coloured crepe, lavge hat. with wreath of yellow and black buttercups: Mrs. Hodge, white linen, straw hat. trimmed with bows of cream ribbon; Airs. Walter Barker, tussore coat and skirt, trimmed with large Oriental buttons; Airs. G. Stock, white muslin, trimmed with bands of insertion, black hat; Airs. R. V. Gully, white crepe, pale blue hat, trimmed with wheat; AIDs Hazel and Aliss Ella Nolan; Aliss Birdie Murray; Miss P. aud M. de Lautour; Aliss D. Bull; Miss A'. Symes; Miss P. Lusk; Miss Al. Rees : Aliss S. Evans. “ Spook Revel." On Saturday last Air. and Mrs. Charles Gray, “Waiohika.” entertained ;i. large number of their friends. The party took the novel form of a “spook revel.” Everything was carried out most cleverly, and great credit was due to the entertainers. “Spooks glided about in the garden, making everything look most weird. A great feature of the evening was fortune-telling by a sorceress, which caused great amusement. A “spook" dance was executed on the verandah by six witches on broom-sticks, and was followed by the Lancers, danced on the lawn. The supper-room was festooned with ghostly decorations, in the shape of bats, snakes, frogs, and grinning skulls, hanging from the ceiling. Those present were:—Mrs. Grey. Airs. Kells. Mrs. Hodge. Murray. Aliss AL Ree«, Miss H. Sherratt, Aliss V. Symes. Messrs. Willock, Kells (2), Nolan. Dodgshun, Busby, Jeffries, Wanklyn (Christchurch), Cook, Jackman, Hamilton. Personal. Mrs. H. B. Lusk left Gisborne last week for Napier. Aliss Gardiner (Auckland) is staying with Airs. Falkner at Patirtahi. Air. and Airs. C. A. de Lautour have gone to Wellington to meet their son. Air. Frank de Lautour. who has just returned from America. Airs. Wanklyn (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs. J. W. Nolan, “Otipi.” ELSA.
