December 11. Song Afternoon. Mrs. Alfred Julian gave a very jolly "song afternoon.’’ Each guest arrived with something to represent her favourite song. Great fun was caused by some of the representations, which seemed so haul, and yet were so ridiculously easy when one knew. Mrs. Broadfoot was the prize-winner, guessing fifteen out of twenty-five songs. The afternoon was passed very pleasantly indeed. Songs and pianoforte solos were given by Mrs. Lawrie and Misses Stott and Graham. Afternoon tea was served in the dining-room, which was beautifully decorated with white stocks, cornflowers and beautiful white roses. Mrs. Julian, who is an ideal hostess, was wearing a frock of heliotrope charmeuse, with an overdress of black silk net, finished with black jet and silk fringe; Mrs. Frank Julian was in a cream pailette silk, with a beautiful overdress of salver-beaded net; Mrs. Dransfield wore the daintiest of silkspotted net frock, bodice trimmed with beautiful silk insertion, large white and pale blue hat; Mrs. Cory Matthew, black silk voile over Coronation blue satin, large cream and mole hat, red roses; Mrs. A. J. Johnson, vieux rose silk with trimmings of the same shade of silk, yoke and sleeves of eream, net, fawn chip hat trimmed with roses and grass; Mrs. Stevens, eream froek, laee r..verv pretty hlaek hat with wreath of large yellow roses; Mrs. X ert-oc, Shantung costume, white hat,, black velvet and pink flowers; Mrs. Gadsby. blue linen costume, cream linen hat; Mrs. Boddie, black satin, jet 'trimmings, black and white toque; Mrs. R. C. Jordan, black velvet, black and white hat; Mrs. Wolfe, black alpaca costume, black and white bonnet; Mrs. Summerville, dainty pink voile trimmed with ecru insertion, large black hat covered with pink roses; Airs. Byrt Jordan, brown costume, sunburnt hat trimmed with blue sweet pea; Airs. Darrow, Shantung silk costume, collar and cuffs of blue silk, blue and cream hat; Mrs. Graham looked exceedingly well in a tailor-made pale grey costume strapped with black and white, edged with cerise, pretty toque of mole and cerise straw, blaek osprey; Miss Graham looked charming in a dainty pale grey voile piped with pale blue satin, bodice prettily trimmed with white laee and Oriental braid, large black hat lined with white lace, trimming of pink roses and grass; Miss Ivy Graham, pink linen piped and embroidered with heliotrope, dainty pink

aud mole hat, the crown covered with tiny pink flowers; Mrs. M. J. Jones, white silk, trimmings of wide guipure lace, black hat; Mrs. Broadfoot, green and white cheek silk, wide white hue insertion on bodice and skirt, green hat with blue satin trimmings; Mrs. Gresham, tussore silk; Miss Franklip, white embroidered muslin; Miss Downs, pink crepe, pink amt white hat; Mias Ktott, white embroidered muslin; Mrs. N. K. Wilson, mole-coloured costume, blue and brown hat; Mrs. Laurie, nary costume, reseda green hat; Mrs. McCardall, navy costume, black and cream hat; Mrs. Pine, eream costume, putty coloured toque with pink roses and osprey. Personal. Miss Graham, who has been spending a long holiday in Taranaki and Wanganui, has returned. Mrs. George (Auckland) has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. R. C. Jordan. •Miss' Keogh (Auckland) is spending the week-end with Mrs. A. J. Johnson. Mrs. Barker and two children are the puests of Mrs. Broadfoot.
