December 9. ( large party of amateurs staged “Trial by Jury" at the Opera House last , week. The pea-formance was most creditable. Miss Pettit, of Dannevirke, Mr. Hartgill. Dannevirke. and Mr Ted Hill. Wellington, took the leading parts. Messrs. L. A. Abraham, H. Scott, and Lyons were local performers who made a great success of the parts allotted to them. In the early part of the evening there were several beautiful tableaux. “Grow, Little Mushrooms, Grow,” with Mrs Chaytor as the central figure and ’soloist, was very pretty. “Sing a Song -of Sixpence," with Miss Ethel Wilson and Mr Morrah as principals, was another attractive tableaux. “Three Old Maids of Lee.” sung in character by Mrs -Penny, Miss Watson, and Miss Symons, was encored. The original ballet of “Midnight Revels in Toyland" was splendidly done. Tile audience included: — : Mra Cohen, wearing a black charmcuse toilette, with black sequin trimming; -Mrs R. S. Abraham, green satin, with black ninon tunic, old rose satin opera ■ wrap; Mrs Louisson, rose pink Shantung, ; with tunic of ninon in same shade; Mrs R. Davies, white embroidered muslin, cluster of pink roses on corsage; Mrs IL F. Gibbons, black satin, with green and gold embroideries: Mrs Harper (Wellington), Mrs H. G. Rosher, Mrs U. Nathan, Mrs Hall. Mrs ,T. Strang, Mrs Louglinan, Mrs H. Cooper, Mrs A. Guv. Mrs A. Sutherland. Airs Barnicor-t, Mrs G. Moore. Mrs L. A. Abraham, Mrs Holmes, Airs Ward, Airs A. Ward, Mrs Harden, Airs Ale Knight. Mrs C. W. Walker. Afi.ss F. Randolph, Airs C. E. Waldegrave, Mrs -Stowe, Airs Alartin. Mrs G. Potts, Mrs Higginson, Airs H. R. Waldegrave, the Alisses AlcLennan, -Airs Alorrah, Airs H. N. Watson. Mrs F. E. Watson, Airs A. N. Gibbons,. Airs Armstrong, Afrs W. Coombs, Airs R. K. Reed, and a greatmany others. Dr. and Airs Alartin entertained a large party at supper in the Municipal Hall after the second night of “Trial by Jury.” The guests included: Air and Airs Al. Cohen, Mr and Mrs F. Nathan, Air and Airs L. A. Abraham. Aliss Sybil Abraham, the Rev. and Mrs H. 0. Rosher, Airs R. S. Abraham, Mr and Mrs H. F. Gibbons, Mr and Mrs Loughnan, Dr. and Mrs Stowe, Mr and Mrs J. Strang, Mr ami Mrs W. L. Fitzhertwrt, ’ Dr. and Airp O’Brien, Dr. ami Mrs Put. num, Messrs Hartgill, Hill, Lyon, Cooper, Moore, etc.
The entertainment was in aid of All Faints' new ehureh building fund, and there will be over £2OO cleared. Tennis. ’ The dreadful weather we are experiencing is interfering with all out-door sport] Tennia was very poorly attended on Saturday. Mrs A. D. Thompson,'"Mrs R. M. M<K night. Mrs Mqodie, Sirs Spencer, the Misses Armstrong, Bond, K. Wilson, Porter, .Scott, were a few’ present. Personal. Mrs Millton. who has been ; in England during the last four years, has returned to Palmerston. She is the guest of Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave. , ,• i... Mrs Fulton (Wellington) is staying with her sister, Mrs Warburton. Mr and Mrs C. E. Armstrong ami children, who have been visiting Mr and Mrs E. Armstrong, have returned home to Gisborne last week. Miss H. Jones, who has been.staving with Mrs MeKnight, has returned home to Wanganui. Miss Williams, who has been the guest ef Mrs K. K. Reed for a short time, has -burned to Gisborne.
