OVER ONE HUNDRED MILES AN HOUR—THE FIRST AERIAL MAIL SERVICE.

On September the tir<t aerial mail service was inaugurated, Mr. Gustav Hamel, with a heavy consignment of cards and letters, travelling from Hendon to Windsor in the record time of 12J minutes or in about one-third of the time taken by the fastest train to accomplish the journey. The first flying mail carried a number of special messages, including letters sent by the King and Queen and other membeis of the Royal family, and greetings from the I’ostmaster-General to postmasters on the Continent and in the colonics. There was a strong gale blowing, and Mr. Hamel flew at the terrific rate of I<»s miles an hour. The photo, shows the arrival of Mr. Hamel at Windsor.
