THE WORLDS LARGEST LINER IN COLLISION- OLYMPIC RUN DOWN BY A CRUISER.
The great steamship Olympic, the largest liner in the world, was last month badly damaged in a collision off <'owes with H .M s. Hawke, of the Home Fleet. The cruiser’s bow was crumpled up like a concertina. The Olympic, outward bound, had just g..t "’it of Southampton water, and was proceeding eastward at a fairly fast pace. The Hawke was coming in from the westward, and was proceeding to Portsmouth. She overtook the liner, and appeared to be passing her by the bow. Suddenly, however, she slowed down, and then, as it seemed from the shoie. meant to go under the liner’s stern. A moment later she strmk the Olympic with a crash that could be heard by those on the (’owes front. The Hawke managed to proceed under h'-r own st»;im Topical, photo. to Portsmouth, and the Olympic was docked for repairs at Southampton.
