September 22. . The “ Savage,.*' On last Saturday night the Wellington Orphans' (dub, under Dr. Izard, gave anentertainment at the Opera House in aid of the fund to establish a children’s ward at the Palmerston Hospital, There was

a very large audience present, which must have been gratifying to the visiting performers and to Mr. F. .Nathan, who was the originator of the idea. and to whose efforts is due the success of the undertaking. Amongst the audience I noticed: Airs. F. Nathan, wearing a cream opera coat over a -cream silk toilette; Airs. Warburton, champagne silk with lace trimming of the same shade; Miss Warburton, cream and pink floral muslin with a broad pink satin hem; Airs. O’Brien, black crepe de chine, Paisley opera coat; Miss Alona O'Brien, pale blue and silver opera wrap worn over pale blue silk frock; Airs. Coombs, soft black satin and jet; Alias Coombs, cream crystalline and lace; Airs. Reed, black velvet toilette; Aliss Reed, black crepe de chine; Aliss Dora Reed, old rose frock with touches of gold; Mrs. W. Bendall, cream and pink floral muslin with bands of deep rose silk; Mrs. R. Davis, mauve -Tosca net over silk of the same shade; Air. and Mrs. W. Harden, Mr. and Mrs. Cohen, Dr. and Mrs. Putnam, Mrs. and Miss Armstrong, Airs. C. W. Walker, Miss F Randolph, Mr. and Airs. Barnicoat; Air. and Airs. C. Waldegrave, Mr. A. D. Thompson, Miss E. Wilson, Miss Bond, Mr. and Mrs Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Paisley, the Alisses Glendinning. Mr. and Mrs. W.- L. Fitzherbert, Mrs. F. S. McRae, Aliss Park, Aliss Wilson, Aliss Beswick, Air. and Airs. Levein, etc.

Bridge Party. Airs. AlcGill, Albert-street, was the hostess at a small bridge party on last Thursday evening, given in honour of her guest (Airs. Alexander), a visitor from India. Those playing included: Airs. Alexander, Air. and Airs. AlcKnight, Mr. and Aliss Coombs. Air. and Airs. Spencer. Air. Aloodie, Air. Dempsey. Airs. McGill wore a black crepe de chine toilette with transparent yoke of black spotted net; Mrs. Alexander, grey Ottoman silk with yoke and sleeves of grey embroidered chiffon.

Airs. Coombs, Feathersfon-street, had a small bridge party on Friday night, arum lilies and white narcissi were used effectively in the decoration of the drawing-room, which was used for cards. Airs, and Aliss Coombs, Airs. Alexander, Air. and Airs. AlcKnight, Aliss Randolph, Aliss Porter, Aliss Reed, Alessrs. Collins, Armstrong, Murray, Gardiner (2), Clere, and a few others were there. Mrs. Coombs was wearing a black satin, and jet frock; Aliss. Coombs, white muslin and lace, with belt of soft blue satin.

Another bridge hostess was Airs. R. M. AlcKnight, Queen-street, who entertained a party of friends on Wednesday evening. Airs. AlcKnight wore a black satin frock with black ninon tunic and a cream chiffon scarf on her shoulders; Airs. G. W. Harden, grey crepe de chine; Airs. Alorrah, sapphire blue velvet with Maltese lace berthe; Airs. Alexander (India,), soft black satin, the bodice finished with gold embroidery; Airs. AlcGill, black silk with transparent yoke of blaek spotted net; Airs. Coombs, blaek silk with overdress of black chiffon elaborately embroidered in cream; Mrs. Moodie, cream silk and lace; Miss Randolph, black crepe de chine, the net tunic finished wit-li jet fringe, pink roses in hair and on corsage; Aliss Coombs, cream crystalline and chiffon, her hair tied with old rose silk ribbon; Aliss Porter, pale pink silk, the corsage trimmed with silver embroidery; Alessrs. AlcKnight, Alorrah, Harden, Armstrong, Aloodie, Collins, Copeland, Clere, and a few others were there.

Children's Parties. The children here have had a glorious time this last week. The first party ■was on last Thursday night, when Airs. 11. R. Waldegrave, Park-road, gave a large one, for her younger daughters, the Alisses Sybil, Doris, and Marjory Waldegrave. Children under 12 years ■were not invited to this party, and several grown-ups were present to help in the entertainment of the younger guests. The drawing-room and diningroom were.used for dancing, and in the morning-room an elaborate supper was served, the tables being gaily deeprated. with a profusion of daffodils, snowflakes and violets. Mr. and Mrs. C. Louisson have returned from a short trip to Auckland. Mr Neald, who was the guest of Mrs 11. Wai degrave for some weeks, has returned to Wellington. Miss Hilda Bell and Miss Gwen Bell have been staying with their sister, Mrs. Tripe. Miss 11. Bell has gone on to Auckland now, and Miss G. Bell to Fordell. Mrs. Alexander (India) is the guest of her niece, Mrs. J. McGill.The marriage of Miss Flory Park to Mr. Treleaven (Christchurch) takes .place tally next month.
