In the Legislative Council last week the Hon. 3ones moved the second reading of the Field Divorce Empowering bill. The object of the bill, he explained, was to enable Arthur Henry Field, of Ashburton, to petition the Court for a dissolution of his marriage. His wife had been hopelessly insane for 16 years, but had not been confined in an asylum within the meaning of the Lunatics A.ct. 1908. for a period of ten years. She had been so confined for six years, the remainder of the time being spent in a private institution. The lion. W. Beehan (Auckland) and the Hon. W. \\. The second reading was rejected by 15 to 9.
