A New Hardy Primrose.

PRIMULA WINTER!. This new primula is described as a fascinating species from the Himalayas, where it was discovered at an altitude of 10.000 feet, not far removed from the limits of the eternal snows. It is. therefore, perfectly hardy. It is said to seed freely, and will, no doubt, soon become a favourite among hardy plants. A Mr Winter first collected the seeds, and the species bears his name. This

newcomer resembles the common yellow primrose in habit, and flowers as profusely. The individual flowers are about the same size, and vary from pale to deep mauve. The foliage is attractive. owing to its whitish or mealy substance, which is a characteristic of

some forms of primula. When this new plant was exhibited by Messrs. R. Gill and Son. Penrhyn. at the Royal Horticultural Society on February 28. it received a first-class certificate, and a similar award from the National Hardy Plant Society.
