NAPIER.

Apiil 13. Open-air Fete. The open-air fete held in the Recreation Ground last Saturday in aid of the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association, was most successful. There was a large attendance, and plenty of amusement provided. A cricket match, ladies v. men, created great interest, as the men were attired in hobble or harem skirts, and used pick handles for hats. A baby show was held on the ground' during .the afternoon, nearly a hundred babies eortipeting. Mi’s. Sydney Riddell, Mrs. Saudtman, and Nurse Donald acted as

judges, and needless to say it was a long and difficult matter awarding the prizes. Mrs. Lindo Levien and Mrs. Coates superintended - the afternoon tea, which was served in different parts of the ground. They were assisted by the Misses Lever (2), May W'illiams, Coates (2), Snodgrass, Saudtman, and Jones. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Lusk, white embroidered muslin; Mrs. Crosse, blue crepe braided in black, black hat with feathers; Mrs. Lever, heliotrope costume; Miss Lever, white ipuslin, black hat with pink roses; Mrs. Riddell, cream silk muslin, black hat; Mrs. Warren, grey coat and skirt,.hat to match; Mrs. Wood, grey' silk frocks, black hat trimmed with hydrangeas; Miss Chapman, blue ninon, black satin scarf; Mrs Russell Duncan, biscuit-coloured Shantung coat and skirt, blue facings, hat to match; Miss Clarke (Hedgley), heliotrope muslin; Mrs. Kettle, white linen coat and skirt; Miss Kettle, eream coat and skirt, black hat; Miss J. Duff, blue Shantung, black hat, with pink roses veiled in black; Miss Hindmarsh, white muslin, green hat; Miss C. Hindmnrsh, tussore frock, black hat lined with pink; Mrs. Smart, blue' and white costume, black hat; Miss Snodgrass, white muslin, vieux rose hat; Miss Kirk, white cloth, black and white hat; Mrs. Horace Cato, Mrs. Oswalds Coates, Miss Pasley, Miss Meyhill, Miss Hamlin, Mrs. Ashcroft, Miss Valentine, Miss Baldwin, Miss Crosse, Mrs. Geo. Kelly, Mrs. and Miss McCarthy, Mrs. Sandtman, Mrs. Zeile, Miss Williams (Gisborne).

Personal. Mrs. Max Jackson (Gisborne! spent a few dans in Napier on her way to England. -- •Mrs". J.- R. Morgan has returned from Dannevirke. Miss Whitaker (Wellington) is th« guest of Miss Williams (Hukarere). Miss Ludbrook (Gisborne) is visiting Hawke’s Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Weber have returned from their wedding tour. . . Miss Davies (Gisborne) is visiting Napier. Bishop Averil has returned from his visit to the northern part of the diocese. The Rev. J. Simpkins (England) has arrived, in Napier, and is staying at Bishopscourt. He leaves shortly for Wairoa. Mrs. J. C. Westall and children leave by the Rotorua for England next month. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mannering are spending the Easter holidays at Taupo. The Misses Maclean have gone to Wanganui for the College festivities. MARJORIE
