Catching it Both Ways.

Some time ago the New Zealand Government was hotly criticised by some of its opponents for having allowed its shipping business in London, inelqding the booking ,of immigrants’ passages, to l>e carried on by’ a shipping agent instead of by’ the ' High Commissioner’s office. Now that this work is being done by the High' Commissioner’s office, the New Zealand Government is a target for the criticism of the shipping agents! The British Passenger Agents’ Association have been holding a conference in Glasgow this week, and, according to the Glasgow papers, ‘‘a grievance was felt in the fact that the New Zealand Government maintains its own booking agent in London and thus deprives the licensed passenger agent of a large amount of business.” So the poor Government catches it both ways.
