I he “DAILY MAIL”: It is an eminently cheerful aud agreeable book, that may serve to rouse an appetite for wandering in some stay-at-homes. The “QUEEN”- Her pleasant way of describing places and things, as well as events, should commend the volume to many ■people, especially -those who are of the stay-at-home order. . She manages in each short sketch to give a very good description of the various places of interest, and, indeed, the only fault to lind with the book is that she has tried to put too many currants into her pudding, to use a homely simile. The ‘‘WORLD”: The author has conducted her travels, aud the matter of her culture and education, on a comprehensive plan. She is a dilettante, but on so large a scale as almost to be remarkable. . . . The author appears to have been to most of the famous places of the earth, and she ■writes about them with evident delight. The photographs are of uniform excellence. The “SPEtTAIW”: The book makes pleasant reading. Very few can hope to follows in Miss Leys’ steps from the ■beginning to the end. but evidently she is a traveller of the right sort. The ‘‘LADIES’ FIELD”: There is not a dull page in the book, though we feel more inclined to remark upon the pleasant style of the writer than upon the singularity or strangeness of her adventures. It must be allowed that lady travellers see and note “crumbs of interest” which few men would think of •recording. OPINIONS OF THE N.Z. PRESS. “N.Z. HERALD”: This is a handsome and entertaining volume c»f travel, brightly written and profusely illustrated. The author -has a keen eye for the beautiful, the romantic, and the dramatic, and conveys her impressions in a light and captivating style. “Liber” in the “N.Z. TIMES”; Next to Sir Frederick Treves’ books, “The Other •Side of the lantern” and “The Cradle of the Deep.” and Mr Ponting’s “Lotus Land — Japan.” I have not happened this many a long day upon a book of travels which has afforded me more honest enjoyment than this well written record of an Auckland lady's wanderings in some of the most interesting places of the earth. “WELLINGTON POST”: Her impressions and the reflections they suggest are snatched as they occur: her style is picturesque. and she is never dull. . . Some of her pictures will remain long in memory. “CHRISTCHURCH PRESS”: Miss Leys has the true temperament for the writing of a readable book of travel. She has a. fund of enthusiasm including a keen appreciation of beauty which is at the command of any worthy object, and much of the record is tinged with a pleasant sentiment, and coloured, as a book of travel should be. with the writer's personality. “DUNEDIN STAR”: Tin* volume Is charmingly written, holding the interest from title page to finis. Told in a chatty, breezy manner, the travels and adventures appeal greatly to those who have travelled but in imagination. It is such books as these that give unbounded delight. “NAPIER TELEGRAPH”: This is certainly one of the most entertaining and fascinating volumes of travel that we have read. . - This Is not the crude work of an amateur, but displays in every lino •ind every chapter the skilful treatment of a gifted and clover writer, who has found enthusiastic inspiration in a congenial under! aking.
