D comber 7. Cricket. The Povertv Bay Club cricket match, held annually at Taruheru, took place last Wednesday under most favourable c'reumstanees, t he day being a glorious one. A large number of ladies turned out to witness the game. Amongst those present were: Mesdamcs Reeve, Reynolds Burke, Hughes, F. B. Barker, R. Barker, Rees, Parker, Stock, G. Reynolds, Williams, Palmer, Mac Lean, Anderson, Sherratt, Smith, White Jex Blake Kennedy, ete. * The Messiah." A choir of 105 voices, assisted by a •trong orchestra, have for some time bad under practice “ The Messiah.” Last night (Tuesday) they produced it most Successfully to a crowded and enthusiastic audience. Mr. M. L. Foster conducted. Madame Wielaert, of Auckland, Madame Gleave, of Gi»bome, Messrs. J.
East, and Alexander took the solos, making the performance a most enjoyable one. The concert was in aid of the funds of the Y.M.C.A., which will benefit to th# extent of £6O. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Callas (Auckland) arrive in Gisborne to day, Mr. Callas having been transferred to the local branch of the Bank of Australasia. Mr. Thody, who succeeds Mr. Callas in Auckland, left Gisborne last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Nolan, and Miss Nolan arrived from Auckland to-day (Wednesday). Miss Jamieson is at present the guest of the Misses Reynolds, Sandown Miss Reynolds is at present visiting Hastings. Mr S. Symes (Gisborne) is on a visit to his brother, Mr. H. Symes, Hast ngs. Miss Lusk (Napier) is at present visiting her grandmother, Mrs. W. L. Rees (Gisborne). Dr. Collins returned from Auckland on Wednesday. Mr. Guthrie Smith left by the Tarawera on Sunday for Wellington. Miss Tousley who has been visiting friends in Gisborne, left on Sunday for Dunedin. Mrs. Toisel (East Coast) is visiting friends in Gisborne. ELSA.
