November 25. A Dance. A very successful dance was given at the Art Gallery on Tuesday evening in honour of the members of the Antarctic expedition. The function was under the auspices of the Christchurch branch of the Navy League. The ballroom was decorated with white art muslin and cleverly arranged festoons and touches of cotton wool, which gave quite the effect of a snowstorm. Mrs. Arthur Rhodes wore a lovely gown of rose-pink satin, with irridiscent embroideries and diamond ornaments Mrs. Boyle, pearl grey satin, with overdress of sequined net; Miss Boyle, frock of black net, with jet trimming over black silk; Mrs. R. Scott (England), Royal blue ninon over satin, with touches of gold embroidery; Mrs. C. F. Thomas, black sequined net over white silk; Miss Thomas, pale green satin and silver Mrs. Deans, black satin and lace; Mrs. J. Rhodes (Timaru), Saxe blue satin, with tunic of cream ninon bordered with fringe: Miss Wood, white net froek inserted with blue ribbon; Miss Patterson (Dunedin), blue and white floral chiffon: Miss Strachey. pale blue silk: Miss Knight, reseda green taffetas; Miss M. Knight, tangerine taffetas and lace; Miss Moore, black silk, with sequined net tunic; Miss E. Moore, pale blue ninon; Miss G. Moore, shell pink ninon over white silk; Miss Milne, pale blue taffetas and lace; Miss Williams, Mack net over silk: Miss Mills, black satin and jet trimming. Others present were: Messrs Rhodes (2). Harvey, Anderson (2), Pratt, Campbell, and Dr. Nedwill. Motor Picnic. A motor picnic was given on Saturday afternoon by Mr and Mrs G. E. Rhodes at their residence. (Meadowbank), in honour of the officers of the Antarctic expedition. Several motor cars left (bristchurcli nt 2 p.m., arriving at Meadowbank in time for afternoon tea. A very pleasant time was spent, and the evening ended with a dance in the wool shed. Amongst others present were:

Captain Evans (of the Terra Nova), Mrs Evans, Misses Rhodes (2), Tabart, Barker, Anson, Brodriek, Humphreys (2), Anderson (2), Symes, Clifford,' Cooke, Burns (2), Wilding, Moore (2), Messrs Rhodes (2), Godby, Wright, Anderson, Douglas, Cooke, Hawkes, Fryer, and members of the Antarctic expedition. Other gaieties of the week liave been a small dance at Fendalton, a dance at Riccarton. and a theatre supper party at the Cadena Tea-rooms. Afternoon Tea. An afternoon tea was given by Mrs. Arthur Rhodes yesterday (Thursday), November 24 at her residence, “Te Koraha,” Merivale. A drawing-room meeting was afterwards held for those interested in, and workers, for the Christchurch branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, when it was decided that Ambulance Day should be fixed for Saturday, December 16, when an organised street collection should be made by a number of ladies and girl members Who have volunteered their services. Personal. Visitors to Christchurch include: Mr. and Mrs. J. Teschemaker (Blenheim), are the guests of Mrs. Elworthy (Papa-nui-road). Miss Wes'tmacott, “Glenavy.” Woodbury, is staying with Mrs. H. P. Hill, Papanui. Miss Rutherford (Blenheim) is the guest of Airs. J. Williams, Chapterstreet, St. Alban’s. Mr. and Mrs. P. McLean (Napier). Miss E. Barker (Geraldine) is the guest of Mrs. A. Rhodes (Merivale). Miss Anson (North Island) is the guest of Mrs. Boyle at Riccarton. Mrs. Lillingston (England) is visiting Miss Murray-Aynsley, Clvde-road, Fendalton. Mrs. Ledingliam (Melbourne) has been visiting friends in Christchurch. Mrs. and. Miss Molineaux (Christchurch) are paying a short visft to W ellingt on. Mrs. Melville Jameson (Timaru) was the guest of Mrs. Elworthy (Papanuiroad). Mrs. Wigram returned to Christchurch on Saturday from a visit to England. Miss Julius (Christchurch) is visiting friends in Tijparu. Mrs. Hugh Reeves (Christchurch) is in Timaru, the guest of Mrs. C. Gresson. Miss M. V illiams, who has been staying with friends in Christchurch, has returned to Geraldine. Dr. Wilson, of the “Terra Nova,” and Mrs. Wilson, who have been on a visit to the North Island, are now staying with Lady Bowen at Middleton. Mr. and Mrs. T. Cowliehaw have returned to Christchurch from a short motor trip in the North Island. Miss Thomas (Christchurch) is visiting Mrs. Acton-Adams ar “Ti Papa.”
