W. Golder, photo. A FIGUREHEAD WITH A HISTORY. The figurehead shown in the photo belonged to the ship Northumberland, wrecked on the Petane Beach (Napier). on May 13th. 1887. It was formerly owned by Mr S. Charlton, of Hastings, but recently changed hands at a sale. After the officers and crew of the Northumberland were saved the vessel broke up. and the figurehead was the only thing saved. Five of the rescuers lost their Lives.
