September 2. At Home. On Monday night, at the Art Gallery, the members of the Savage Club gave an “At Home” to their lady friends. A most enjoyable programme was given by members of the Savage Club. This included songs, recitations, and rapid drawing of caricatures, followed by a clever and amusing comedietta written by Mr T. Cave. Supper was served at the end of the performance, and then dancing was kept up till 2 a.m. Amongst those present were: Mrs T. Cave, wearing a white net gown over white silk, relieved with touches pale pink; Airs Fenwick, black silk frock, green silk coat; Miss Wright, black glace silk and lace; Airs Todhunter, black silk and sequins; Airs N. Skating; Party. A small skating party was given on Friday’ morning at the Olympia Rink by Airs Stevenson (Alerivale). Amongst the guests were: Airs J. D. Hall, Airs Borthwick, Airs and Aliss Thomas, the Alisses Gorrie (Auckland), Airs (’. Cooper. Airs Campbell, Aliss Campbell, Airs Arthur Harper, Aliss Size (Dunedin), Aliss Gon hi (Dunedin), and Alisses Alerton (2). At Home. On Saturday afternoon Airs Stead, “Strowan Park.” was “At Home” to a few friends, the occasion lieing the christening of Air and Airs Gerald Stead's little daughter. The guests included: Airs George Rhodes, Airs Wilfred Stead (Gisborne', Aliss Elworthy, Aliss Sise (Dunedin), Airs Henry Wood, Airs C. Cooper, Mrs (’. Reid, and Mrs GowerBurns. Children's Party. A children's party was given on Alonday by Mrs. Elworthy ( Napanui-road), The grown-ups were: Mrs. Bond. Airs. 11. Elworthy (“Craigmore”). Mrs. W. Bond. Mrs. A. Harper, Mrs. Archer, Mrs. Hugh Reeves, Mrs. Fox. Airs. Beckett. Airs. I'hom-on. Mrs. Teschemaker, and Mrs. Harper. The children were: Alisses Harper (2). Reeves, Beckett (2), Palmer, Rhodes, Teschemaker (2), Bond (2), Bp* wick. Ari her. Masters Fox, Thomson, Gibbs (2), Borthwick (2), Turnbull, Beckett, and Reeves. All kinds of games were played, ami before leaving the little ones each received a little present to take home. A Dance. A dance was given in Aliss Cox's Assembly Rooms on Alonday evening by Mrs. J. (\ N. Grigg ( Longbeaeh)■ and Aliss Grigg, who entertained her young friends. The floral decorations of spring flowers were much admired, and a delightfully pleasant evening was spent.

Christchurch Musical Union. A concert was given by the Christchurch Musical Union at His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening. The soloists were: Miss Richardson and Mr. A. Freeman. Part songs were given by the chofus (unaccompanied). The orchestra gave Cowen’s ‘Language of Flowers.” Mies Rutter played a violin solo, and Miss Rima Young Chopin’s Scherzo in C Sharp Minor. Miss Richardson wore a pretty white silk dress made with tunic and trimmed with silver passementerie; Miss Young and Miss Rutter wore white muslin frocks. An Impromptu Dance. On Wednesday evening Mrs. John Deans (Riccarton) gave a small impromptu dance in honour of her guest, Miss Brandon, of Wellington. Mrs. Deans wore a handsome gown of black corded velvet relieved with white Brussels lace; Mrs. Frank Harris (Canton), a sweet frock of pink and white floral chiffon hemmed with dull green satin; Miss Park, pale blue crepe de chine and lace; Miss Brandon, pastel pink crepe de chine and chiffon; Mrs. Paul (Canton), black velvet relieved with lace; Mrs. C. Cooper, black satin with touches of white lace; Miss Symes, wine-coloured ninon worn over satin and trimmed with embroidery of oxidised silver; Miss Humphreys, pale blue satin with tunic of black satin edged with silver fringe; Miss Wilkin, white satin with overdress of gold net; Miss Moore, cream lace with touches of pale blue silk; Miss D. Anderson, mauve crepe de chine veiled in grey chiffon; Miss Fitzgerald (Wellington), black saftin trimmed, with jet; Miss Wilding, mauve silk with pale pink roses. Others present were: Messrs. Harris (2), Cooper, Fell, Wilding. Denniston. Anderson, Allen, Joyce, Cook, and Helmore. Old Boys' Dance.

The annual dance of the High School Old Boys’ Football Club took place on Thursday evening, September 1, at the Art Gallery. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Bea ven Brown, black silk and lace; Mrs Gordon Holmes (Rakaia), black Oriental satin and sequins; Mrs. Dougall,; black silk; Mrs. Thornton, black; Mrs. Alick Holmes (Somerton), pretty fitock of pale blue Oriental satin and panels of silver bead embroidery; Mrs. Fulton, pretty frock of ambercoloured Oriental satin and pearl embroidery; Miss Rita Russell, white silk and silver, with touches of pale blue; Mrs. T. Miss Kohn, white Oriental satin gown with tunic of white chiffon edged with silver; Miss Rose, black silk; Miss E. Croxton, frock of golden brown ninon, with Oriental trimmings and pink roses; Miss Guthrie, black silk frock with tunic of black and gold chiffon, edged with gold embroidery; Miss Buchanan, pale blue silk frock: Miss B.
