August 11. A Dance. Mrs. Barnett gave a most delightful dance for young people at her charming residence, “Kaydale,” Tua Marina, on Friday night. The young people were conveyed in drags from town, and, after a most jolly drive, reached “Raydale” at about half-past eight. A sumptuous supper was served in the morning-room. The tables looked charming, and presented a most alluring effect, being arranged with Ted japonica and Christmas roses and scarlet centre-pieces. The large verandahs were most suitably arranged for sit-ting-out* Dancing was continued until
the small hours of 'the morning, when the guests departed for home, after one of the jolliest dances of the season. Mrs. Barnett received her guests wearing black silk voile, relieved with white lace; Miss Barnett wore rose silk relieved with black velvet; Miss E. Barnett, cream silk; Miss M. Barnett, saxe blue relieved with white lace; Miss K. Barnett, palo blue silk muslin, with black velvet. Those present were: Mrs. D’Arcy Chaytor, pale blue ninon; Mrs. Perrott, pale blue silk blouse, black skirt; Mrs. Bennett, black chiffon taffeta; Miss Anderson, yellow .satin; Miss Williams (Renwick), white chiffon taffeta Empire frock; Miss Ewart, brown velvet frock with Maltese lace; Miss Eveline Mowat, white muslin Empire frock; Miss Irene Horton, green ninon Empire frock; Miss Deeima Horton, white book muslin, with satin bands; Miss Amur! Neville, white silk with spangled net; Miss Perrett (Renwick), white silk; Miss dago (Masterton), black spangled net over pink satin: Miss Elinor Mowat, pale blue muslin; Miss McNab, white silk: Miss Fisher, pink silk; Miss C. Houston, white voile; Miss Zoe Houston, white muslin; Miss Macdonald, white ninon with pearl and silver trimming; Miss Isabel Chaytor, mauve ninon frock; Miss Marsh, white net over white silk; Miss C. Marsh, pale blue voile; Messrs. Barnett (2), Anderson, Bird, R. Mowat, Hill, Davey, L. Mowat. Pierpoint, Ij. Houston, G. Griffiths, Perrett, Western, F. Houston, Macey, and Dr. Bennett. A Concert. The first concert of the Blenheim Harmonic Society was largely attended on Tuesday evening in St. Andrew’s Hall, and it can be fairly described as one of the most successful yet held in .Marlborough. Some of those I noticed among -the audience were: Mrs. R. McCallum, Mrs. W. Houston, Mrs. Northeroft, Mrs. C. Mills, Mrs. Huhne, Mrs. F. Bull, Mrs. Lambie, Mrs. Maclaine, Mrs. Fell (Pelorous Sounds), Mrs. Innes, Mrs. Rogers, Misses Rogers, Urquhart, Chapman, Horton, Litchfield, Horne, Houston (2). Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Shipley, " Langridge,” passed through Blenheim on their way to Canterbury. Mrs. Russell Adams is visiting friends in Napier. Miss Amuri Neville has gone to Wellington to be present at Miss Olive Mill’s wedding. Miss Ethel Carey is visiting Blenheim. Miss Jago (Masterton) is staying with her sister, Mrs. Lambie, Percy-street. Mrs. Fell (Pelorous Sounds) is spending a few days here.
