DEAD - OR MERELY SLEEPING?
The curiously shaped, low lying volcano that acts as the sentinel of the Waitemata Harbour. Auckland, is one of the most singular islands in the world. It represents a lava volcano in perfect development. When tile mountain was actne the lava was apparentiv verv liquid -and flowed equally in all directions. Tims the symmetry of the island became almost complete. The cone that occupies the crest of the mountain was formed by scoria eruptions within the crater-atterme lava now was exiiausied. ill Shows a small patch of sandy beach and lava flow near the beacon.
