GISBORNE.
July 21. A Concert. The first of the Orchestral Society’s concerts, whit-h took place on Tuesday night, was a great musical' treat, the theatre being filled to overflowing for the. occasion and the audience a most enthusiastic one.'. Amongst those present were: Alesdames Williams, H. White, Busby, Nolan-, Barton, Seymour, Symes, Parker, Anderson, Margoliouth, G. Barton, Pavitt, Crawford, Palairet, Stephenson, Reeve, Wilson, Rees, Reynolds, Shcrratt, Barker, Seymour, Thomas, Chatterton, Dawson, Thomas, Hine, Spencer (Christchurch), King, Black, Agnew, Browne, etc. Personal. Airs. Spencer (Canterbury) it at present the guest of Airs. Hine, Alangapapa. Dr. and Airs. Reeve left on Wednesday night for a short holiday in the South. The Rev. J. D. Davidson, who lias been the guest of Archdeacon Williams, returned to Hawke’s Bay on Wednesday. The Rev. F. Long, who has left Waipiro to take up missionary work, left Gisborne by the Waina on Wednesday. The members of the P.B. Division of the British Aledical Association, at their quarterly July meeting, made a presentation to Dr. Schumacher, who is leaving Gisborne, of a very handsome travelling rug. The different members of the Association spoke eulogistic-ally of Dr. Schumacher’s abilities and of the respect in which he was universally held throughout the district.
