STRATFORD.

July 8. Stratford is once more taking an interest in mundane affairs. Our invalids are slowly recovering, and things in general are more cheerful.

During the Week. Mrs. H. Good had a small afternoon tea on Tuesday.

Mrs. Wake had some friends for bridge on Wednesday, Mrs. Crawshaw having to postpone her bridge party till next month on account of influenza. Mrs. Hogg was “At Home” on Wednesday afternoon, and in spite of the inclement weather, many went out to Midhirst by train, and had a most delightful afternoon.

Euchre Party. Mrs. F. Wake gave a charming progressive euchre party on Friday afternoon, the artistic dining-room being properly decorated with daffodils and' masses of violets. The hostess received her guests in a most becoming Empire frock of black chiffon taffeta, with lace yoke and jet passementerie; Miss Nina Wake wore a pretty cream lace frock. Among the guests were: Mrs. T. C. Fookes, in heliotrope silk with hat en suite; Mrs. J/onroe, brown silk taffeta, gold trimming on bodice, black velvet toque; Mrs. Hugh Good, Russian eoat and skirt, large burnt straw hat with roses; Mrs. Fraser Grant, grey costume, black velvet 'toque; Mrs. Budge, eream lace robe, large black hat with plumes; Mrs. Young, vieux dress, dark blue hat; Mrs. Dillon-Carbery, dark people eoat and skirt, hat to match; Mrs. Uniacke, blue and brown striped costume, blaek eilk revers, large blaek velvet hat; Mrs. Menzies, dark blue coat and silk; Mrs. E. C. Robinson, blue coat and skirt, black silk roll collar, blue hat; Mrs. Hogg, grey eoat and skirt, large green ■hat; Mrs. Wallace; Mrs. Glasgow, heliotrope costume, large blue hat; Mrs. Rennell, coat and skirt; Mrs. Hawkins, dark green silk Empire robe; Mrs. Paget, blue and white striped delaine, blaek hat; Mrs. Stubbs, black glaee silk, black 'toque; Miss Bedford (New Plymouth) ; Miss Fussell, Miss Orbell, Miss Joyce Monroe, Mrs. Copping; Mre. Evatt, brown costume, with large hat en suite; Mrs. Heatley, and others. The first prize was won by Mrs. Young—a very pretty clock; Mrs. Menzies was the winner of the second—a handsome vase, the booby falling to Mrs. Uniacke —a Channing little belique skillet.

Personal. Mrs. Porritt has returned from her visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. Raikes and family are in New Plymouth for a few days. Mrs. O. Curtis and family are away for a holiday. Dr. and Mrs. Harrison have returned from their visit to the South Island. DENISE
