July 1. A Small Dance. A small dance was given by Mrs J. Struthers-Williams at her residence in Addington. Dancing took place in the drawing-room, which was tastefully decorated with evergreens; the band was stationed in the hall, and supper was served in the dining-room. Mrs Williams wore a black silk gown, relieved with white lace; Miss Williams, pale blue satin and lace; Miss A. Williams, frock of shell pink silk and chiffon. The guests included Mrs J. Williams in a gown of white satin and lace; Miss Devenish Meares, green chiffon, with touches of gold; Miss Thomas, white satin and laee; Miss Robinson, pale pink silk, with touches of black ribbon velvet; Miss Phyllis Anderson, black crepe de chine and white laee; Miss Rutherford (Blenheim), pale blue chiffon taffatas; Miss Milne, white muslin and lace; Miss Hanmer, Princess gown of dark green velvet; Miss M. Ilanmer, white satin, with silver sequin embroidery; Miss Kitson, froek of blue Shantung; Miss Murray, mauve crepe de chine, with bands of silver; Miss Reece, violet velvet, relieved with white lace; Miss Murchison (Lake Coleridge), vloux rose satin and lace. Barns, Kitson, Murray, and Dr. N. Guthrie. Bridge. A small bridge party was given by Mrs T. Cowlishaw (Merivale). The guests were Mr and Mrs Borthwick, Miss Symes, Mr and Mrs Cooper, Miss Cowlishawe, Mrs J. Turnbull, Mr and Mrs Arthur Reeves, and the Messrs. Helmore (2). At Avonside, Mrs Henry Wood gave a small bridge party in honour of Mr and Mrs Harold Abraham (Levin), who are the guests of Miss Humphrey (Fendalton). Organ Recital Tea. An organ recital tea was given by Mrs Talbot at His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday afternoon, when Dr. Bra’dshaw presided at the organ, and gave a most enjoyable concert; after which the guests were entertained at the tea rooms lately opened in connection with the Bathe Picture Co. Those present included Mesdames Goulburn-Gibson, Stevenson, Symes, Morton-Anderson, R. Anderson, H. 0. D. Meakes, Monteath, Williams, Westenra, Blunt, Wall, Fox, Irvine, J. D. Hall, Lester, Hogg, Misses Gibson, Meares, Milne, Rutherford, Mrs and Miss Turnhull. Limerick Afternoon. A Limerick afternoon was given by Miss Collins (Armagh-street) on Saturday. The guests included Mrs J. G. Collins, Mrs Appleby, Mr Treleaven, and quite a number of girls. The prize, a dainty la.ee handkerchief, was won by Miss Alice Spooner, Miss Croxton coming second. Subscription Dances. Mrs Charles Parker’s Assembly took place on Thursday evening in Miss Cox’s rooms, at “Te Whare,” Hereford-street; there was a good attendance, and the dance was quite a success. This evening a small dance will take place in Mrs. Worsley’s room at Fendalton. Bridge Drive. A highly-successful bridge drive, organised by a number of ladies, members of the Society for Promoting the Health and Care of Women and Children, was held last night (Thursday, June 30th) in the Cadena Tea Rooms. There were over forty tables. Each player paid 3/6, 2/6 of which goes toward the fund, and the remainder to help cover the expenses. The prizes were presents from Mrs. Deans (Ricearton). Amongst the large number present were:—Mesdames Walter Stringer, Sandstein, C. Reid, T. Cowlishaw, A. Wilson, Ford, G. Ronalds, Stevenson, Symes, Morton, Anderson, Loughnan, Condell, Campbell, Graham, Appleby, Hall, Borthwick, Cooper, Reeves, Butterworth, Wood, Misses Reeves, Symes, Humphreys (2), Nedwill, Cowlishaw, Messrs. Gadby, Reeves, Cooper, Borthwick, Graham, Stringer, and hosts of others. An Enjoyable Dance. A large and most enjoyable dance was. given by Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Mulgan at their residence, Merivale, Christchurch, on the night of June 25th. The pretty bungalow house is an ideal one for this form of entertainment. Much regret was expressed that the dance would probably be the last given by their hostess, owing to Mr. Mulgan’s approaching departure for Auckland, and many kind things were said about the pleasant hours spent under their hospitable roof. Personal. Visitors to Christchurch include Mies Murchison (Lake Coleridge), Miss Rutherford (Blenheim), Miss Peache (Mt. Somers), Mrs. Maitland Rich (Wairuna), Mr. and Mrs. Courage (Amberley). Mrs. lan Deans (Homebush) is the guest of Mrs. Deans (Riccarton). Miss Raine (Timaru) is staying with Mrs. A. Wilson (Gloueester-street). Miss Bassett (Christchurch) has returned from Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. G. Gerard have taken Mrs. Bassett's house at Hornby, while their own house at Fendalton is being re-built after the recent fire. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Elworthy (Timaru) have returned from their trip to Australia. Mrs. Hugh Reeves and Mrs. C. Gregson (Timaru) are spending a few days in Christchurch. Mrs. R. N. Beasley (Horarata) is leaving Christchurch for England by the Ruahine.
