June 25. Skating Carnival. The carnival took place on Wednesday night, and was an immense success. There was a large attendance, the following being amongst those present:—■ Mrs. O’Connor (senr.). Black Diamonds; Mrs. O’Conner (jun.), O'Conner and Fuller poster; Miss E. Stevenson, Woodland nymph: Aliss Al. Shrewsbury, poster dress Edison’s Phonograph; Miss G. Sinclair, Postcards; Aliss O. Sampson, a Midnight Alarm; Air. F. O’Conner. Turk; Mr. A. Mclntyre, Topsy; Mr. A. Smith, Burglar: Mr. \V. Stevenson, Blacksmith; Mr. A. Reid. Footballer; Mr. W. Collett, Footballer: Mr. IL Riches, Volunteer; Master A. Broad, Nigger. Mrs. O’Conner's poster dress was well carried out, and wa.s composed of different coloured shavings. A small chair decorated each shoulder, and on her head was worn a hat to represent a gate-post. Ths audience (by means of voting papers) were asked to decide which was the best dressed lady and gentleman, and they chose Mr. and Mrs. O'Conner, Mr. Whittaker presenting the prizes. A few dances concluded the evening. Tennis Social. The first of the Cinderella's was held in Gardiner’s Hall on Thursday evening, and proved very enjoyable. Progressive rm hre was played during the early part of the evening. The ladies’ prize was won by Mrs. O’Conner and the gentlemen's bv Mr. Mankivell. The prizes were presented by Mr. W. Dudley and Mr. Kenderdino respectively. After supper, dancing was kept up till twelve o'clock. Excellent mu>ie was supplied by Mrsdames Thompson and Cowper, Miss MeNeish and Mr. Dewar. Birthday Party. Mrs. Hume gave a delightful little birthday party in honour of her little daughter Nellie's third birthday. Among the children present I noticed: Misses Nellie Hume, Edith Howard, May Sarah, and Masters Hume, Ophir, Sarah, Mervyn Sarah, Spencer Cowper, and Carlyle
