CHRISTCHURCH.
June 17. Capping Day. We have had a particularly quiet week. There has been absolutely nothing going on. This afternoon the University ceremony of conferring degrees and presenting diplomas takes place, at Canterbury College Hall. This morning the students marched through town, headed by a band, and most of them dressed up in wonderful fancy costumes, which, as usual, caused general amusement. They were followed by an admiring crowd. Prof, and Mrs. Haslam are entertaining the Professors and students at afternoon tea after the presentation of diplomas. This evening a conversazione will be held in College Hall, and the various departments of the College will be open for inspection. Afterwards a dance will close the proceedings of Diploma Day. Personal. Mrs. and Miss Boyle returned to Christchurch from Wellington on Thursday, where they were guests at the wedding of Miss Doris Johnson and Captain the Hon. Nigel Gathorne-Hardy.
