June 9. Euchre. Dr. and Mrs. Douglas gave a delightful enclire party in honour of the Misses Aimsene on Saturday evening last. Miss Wallnutt was fortunate enough to win the first prize. Mrs. Douglas received her guests in a pretty pale blue silk evening blouse and black silk skirt; Miss Annsene wore white silk; Miss G. Annsene, pretty cream evening frock; Miss May Annsene, white net evening dress; Miss Metcalfe (Auckland), stylish pale green silk evening gown; Miss Rothwell, green silk gown; Miss MalConxe, handsome black velvet evening gown; Miss Davis, white silk; Miss Daily, all white; Miss Burd, pale blue muslin evening frock ; Mrs. Ward, dainty pale pink chiffon over silk; Miss Curson, pretty pink frock; Miss Wallnutt, pale blue silk blouse, black silk accordion skirt; Miss Bond, pretty while silk evening dress. Bridge. Mesdames Frank and Tom Jolly gave * very pleasant bridge party, in aid of the Croquet Club, on Wednesday evening last. Mrs. Ewen won the Indies? prize, while Mr. fitevens carried off the gentlemen’s. Mrs. F. Jolly received in * handsome black mervcilleux evening
gown, and Mrs. T. Jolly in a stylish black glace silk; Mrs. Ewen wore cream velvet blouse, black skirt; Mrs. Ward, pale pink Bilk; Mrs. Valder, rose coloured silk gown; Mrs. H. Biggs, stylish, black silk evening gown; Mrs. Reece, pretty crushed strawberry silk toilette; Mrs. Herbert, cream evening dress; Mrs. Bennett, oyster silk gown with touches of black; Mrs. Brewis, pretty pink gown; Mrs. Valder, sen., black silk gown; Mrs. Furze, black relieved witfi white; Miss Newell, cream evening frock; Miss C. Jolly, pretty black net gown; Miss Wallnutt, . white muslin evening dress; Miss Quelch, white silk; Miss Stewart, cream gown; Miss McCallum, pale blue silk gown; Miss J. McCallum, pink silk evening dress. “ As You Like It.” The opening reading of the Hamilton Shakespeare Club took place on Thursday evening last in St. Peter’s schoolroom. The piece chosen was: “As You Like It,” which was thoroughly enjoyed and frequently applauded by the large audience present. The part of Rosalind was read by Miss lambert, in a very pleasing and, in some places, brilliant manner. Miss O’Neill, as Phebe, read artistically and well. Mrs. McLeod, as Celia, and Mrs. 11. Valder, as Audrey, also acquitted themselves well. Mr. W. Ranstead, as Orlando, read exceedingly well, as also did Mr. Fox, as Oliver, the quarrel between the two being very well worked up. The other parts were:—Duke, Mr. 11. Valder; Frederick, Mr. E. Wilson; Amicus, Mr. E. H. Northcroft; Jaques, Mr. Milford McArthur; Le Beau, Mr. H. Shaw; Charles, Mr. Seaward; Adam, Dr. Douglas; Denis, Selwyn Graham; Touchstone, Mr. A. E. Manning; Sir Oliver Martixt, Mr. H. Shaw; Corin, Mr. W. McNieol; Silvias, Mr. J. Luxford; Page, Selwyn Graham; William, Mr. Seaward; Hymen, Mr. Northcroft. Miscellaneous. The Waikato M. and E. Competitions resulted in a credit balance of £2l 10/7. This would have been considerably larger if the loss on special trains had not been so great. Personal. Misses Aileen and Vida Hunter have gone to Dunedin for a trip. Miss Annsene and Misses G. and M. Annsene are visiting their aunt, Mrs. Douglas. Miss Metcalfe is also the guest of Mrs. Douglas.
