Mr. 11. W. Nort hcrol’l. whose distinguished conduct in the hold during 'the Maori Wars has boon recognised recently by the award of the New Zealand Cross. Mr. Northcroft was spoken of as a possible Opposition candidate for lhe Auckland Hast by election.
Mr. I.l' Bion was killed on Saturday. April 2nd. at San Sebastian. The monoplane which caused his death was tile one which killed M. Itelagrange at. Bordeaux on January 4th. llelttgrange bequeathed it to I.e Bion, who hail it repaired, and had been using it ever since 'the fatal day. The machine buckled when he was trying to tiescend, and he fell like a stone into the sea from a height of 75ft, with the apparatus on top of him.
Halley’s Comet is said to appear but once in the life of the ordinary individual, but Mr. Thomas Woolford, of (’ambria-st reel. Nelson, has seen it shining - in the heavens on two occasions, a distinction that few people can claim. lie is also one of the few who have lived in six reigns. Mr. Woolford is still hale and hearty at !>7 years of ago. and can remember very well the death of George 111., and was in London when the Coronation of Queen Victoria took place.

The ballot for sections on the llauraki Plains took place .it tin* Thames last Wednesday, and is said to have been a record for the Auckland district. Of the UH sections, were taken up under the O.K.P. clause, six under tin 1 renewable lease system, and three were purchased outright. Three of the most sought after sections, all adjoin lug, were drawn by three members of one family father, son, and daughter.
