HASTINGS.
Mat 12. In Mourning. This week we have had heavy rain, making everywhere seem gloomy and mournful, ami quite in accord with the feelings of the people since the news came of the death of our beloved King Edward A 11. Signs of mourning for our late King are displayed on all the shop s , and ladies are wearing black bands on the arm. and men are wearing a small piece, of ribbon on the coat lapel. Golf, hockey, football, -and all social events have been postponed till after the 20th inst. On Tuesday evening the Rev. J. Hobbs conducted a very- impressive memorial service in memory of the late King at St. Alatthew's Church. There was a large congregation present, the Rev, Hobbs delivering a sympathetic address. Mr. P. Tombs played Beethoven's "Funeral Alarch'’ on the organ, and Miss Flossie Hobbs an organ solo. Suitable solos were al-o -ung bv Miss <lr.iv ami Mr. Melhuish. Personal. Miss Seal (Wellington) is the guest of her mother, Mrs. I.anauze. Mrs. G. Stead (< hristeburcli) is visiting her son, Mr. W T . Stead ("Keruru"). Airs. F. Perry is leaving for England early next month, and intends to reside in England some time.
