NEWS FROM THE WATER (Special to “ FIXTURES. April 3D North Shore Yacht Club's Resail Race. THE weather during the past week has been on the stormy side, the wind blowing about half a gale from between west and south-west, with heavy rain squalls at times. This had the result of curtailing the number of boats for the weekend cruise. North Shore Yacht Club have arranged to resail the race for the 16ft. class of boats on April 30. This will close the Club's fixtures for the season. Quite a number of the fleet of sailing yachts have already gone into winter quarters, and as the fine weather has now apparently broken, the end of this month should see the fleet all laid up. The one-rater Ylaka Made has been laid up at Onohunga for a long time past, ami will not be seen afloat again. This little craft was built by C. Collings on the Ohineniuri River in 1899, and was one of the competitors in the onerater championship race held on the .Wai to ma la in December of that year. It is to be hoped that during the close season that is now approaching that our younger yachtsmen will put in a portion of their spare time in attending the technical classes of their clubs, and obtain some good “schooling,’’ which their elders are only too ready to impart. Ponsonby Cruising Club. Tbe Ponsonby Cruising CluT) held their annual race jn the harbour on Saturday afternoon for a handsome trophy presented by the lady friends of the club. There was a strong breeze from the south-west blowing, with a very heavy sea running during the progress of the race. The entries and handicaps were:—Ronaki scratch, Ranee 10m, Echo 14m, Alva 15m. The course was Iroin off St. Mary's Bay, thence round Calliope Do-k buoy, thence round yacht Viking off Judge s Bay. back round Calliope Dock buoy, finishing at starting line twice round. This was a very good race throughout. although Ronaki had the event well in ham! all the way. The finishing times were: Ronaki, shr 6m 455; Ranee shr 8m; Echo, shr 8m 20s; Alva, shr 10m’. On corrected times Echo is first, Ranee second, and Alva thiid. The same club held a power boat race during the afternoon in connection with ■the sailing race. The entries and handicaps were: Kotiro scratch. Maroro scratch, Perfection 11. 2m ss, Marore 3m 255, Tamahine 21m 20s, Loys 36m. The course was from <»IT St. Mary's Bay. thence round Calliope Dock buoy, round yacht Viking, finishing at starting limy twice round. The finishing limes were: - Maroro, 4hr 43m 455; Perfection It., 4hr 44in 3s; Marore, 4hr 47m 535; Tamahine, 4hr 59m 10s; Loys, shr 6m 4s. On corrected times Loys is first, Tamahine second, and Perfection 11. third. Victoria Cruising Club. The Victoria < ’raising Club held a general handicap race on Saturday afternoon, which created considerable interest and provided excellent sport. The strong south-west breeze blowing enabled the yachts engaged to make very fast lime. The entries ami handicaps were: Sadie scratch, Calypso 3m, Emerald 3m, Miro 4m, Cyrona 6m, Eulalio 6m. Marti Mm, Lina 12m, Mowal 13m, Venus 13m. Valdora 13m. Acacia 14m, Hetty 15m, Eona 15m, Hilda 17m. lola 18m, Rose 18m, Sceptre 18m, Mistral 18m, Fleet wing 2Om. Dtsdma 20m, Konini 21m. Mar<» 23m, Fairy Belle 27m. Course, from oil flagship, round mark off Hobson street wharf, then e round hulk Defiance off Stanley Point, round mark off Chelsea, round flagship, thence back round Defiance, theme round flagship, round Defiance again, thence round I lobsmi st reel wharf, finishing at fitarting point. The result was: Sadie 1, Jidda 2, Eulalio 3. Mow.il 4, Marti 5. Mauukau Yacht Club. The Manukau Yacht Club closed their ■eason with yacht and launch race*. The yacht race was won by M-anoLt, with Edith, three minutes behind, second, while Heather was third Manola thus wins the handicap dip. In the launch race Mildura 11. won by a minute from Hula, and Ngaru w Uurd.
Power Boats. The race for power boots of the New ..ealand Power Boat Association for tho prizes presented by Mr. W. R. Twigg, which was to have taken place on Saturday, had to be postponed owing to tho severe weather prevailing.
