April 14. The Show. The Hawke’s Bay Autumn Show was very successful. The day was beautifully line, and the racecourse was thronged with gaily-dressed people from different parts of the district. The splendid show of exhibits goes once more to prove what a wonderful place Hawke’s Bay’ is. Amongst the costumes worn I noticed: Mrs Barcroft, powder blue hair-lined cloth, black winged hat; Mrs Peddie, black gown, white guipure insertion on yoke and sleeves, black and white bonnet; Mrs Pharazan, military blue skirt and coat, picture hat of cream Leghorn, banded in black velvet and bunched with roses; Mrs Evans, black coat and skirt, black and white bonnet; Mrs Wallace looked very stylish in a mulberry linen, faced with champagne silk, hat Kitty Bellair’s style of cream chip, bunched with purple grapes; Mrs Reid, in aeroplane blue coat and skirt, and mushroom hat with velvet bands all carried out to matijh, looked exceedingly nice; Mrs Tosswill, aluminium grey linen frock, braided same tone, hat with large pink roses; Miss Hindmarsh, white striped cricketing flannel coat and skirt, mole hat swathed with blue silk; Miss Evans, white tucked muslin, lace insertions, stylish black plumed hat, banded with gold insertion; Mrs Scott, powder bine linen, finely braided in brown, powder blue mushroom hat; Mrs Rainbow, pansy cloth costume, black hat with white roses; Mrs Newbigen, caramel brown self striped cloth coat and skirt, burnt straw hat with brown quills and gilt; Alias Newbigen, blue cloth eoat and skirt, braided with black, mushroom hat of velvet, pink feathers; Mrs •Stronach, grey tweed, brown straw hat; Mrs Be Lisle, navy voile, cream hat; Miss Hewson, stylish deep violet cloth gown, hat wreathed with dark wine-coloured roses; Mrs Murray, biscuit cloth coat and skirt, braided in black, lichen green hat and pink roses; Airs Hawkins (Napier) looked very handsome in a stylish rough white serge coat and skirt, turquoise scarf, white hat. Others present were: Afesdames Afiller. Hurley. Stead. McKenzie, Sunderland. Afacfarlane, Lean. McLeod, AfeKibbin, Afaedonell. Alason Clarke, Banks, Humphries, Beamish, Afnnn. AVellwood. Hassal, Brodie. Misses Turkic. Barcroft, Alason. ATackerscv, Afacfarlane, Baird, etc. Personal. Airs E. Gascoyne has returned from Christchurch. Ali'-s Small has returned to K.iiko.:: i. Miss Alunroe has returned to Wanganui. Airs H. E. Beamish has recovered from her slight indisposition. Mr and Mrs G. Beamish are vi-iting at Stoneyeroft. Great sympathy is felt for Mrs W. Williams in the sudden loss of her husband bv a gun accident at Kaipara.
