April 15. Ministerial Visit. Gisborne seems to be quite the scene of Ministerial visits just now—Hon. Mr. Fowlds last week, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward this week, making the place for the nonce quite gay. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward arrived in Gisborne on Wednesday. Thursday was taken up with the naming of the children’s creche, “Heni Materoa,” a function very delightfully performed by Lady Ward, the creche being named after Mrs. Carroll. The same afternoon Lady Ward opened the “Elizabeth Townley Maternity Home,” an institution erected through the efforts of the Cook County Women's Guild. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, and after the building, a very fine one, had been inspected by a large number of visitors, Sir Joseph spoke a few words, and the gathering dispersed. In the evening a complimentary social was tendered to the Prime Minister and Lady Ward by the Cook County Women's Guild. The Ministerial party arrived at about 5..30 p.m., when dancing commenced. The party included: The Prime Minister, Lady Ward, the Hon. Jas. Carroll and Mrs. Carroll, Dr. Valentine, and the Ministerial Secretaries, the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Barton, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Kirk, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Lysnar, Mr. and Mrs. F. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. J. Townley, etc., etc.

On Friday morning a large party, including Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, motored out to “Waimoana,” the coastal residence of his Worship the Mayor. In the afternoon, at the invitation of the President, the Bowling Green was visited, a large number of prominent residents being invited to meet Sir Joseph and Lady Ward. Afternoon tea was served in the very fine pavilion recently erected; Vita Bros.’orchestra discoursing delightful music during the afternoon. Mr. Pettie, the President, in a neat little speech, welcomed Sir Joseph and his wife to the green. Sir Joseph's reply being in a particularly happy strain. After a few words from the Mayor, the meeting dispersed, three cheers being given for the Prime Minister. Lady Ward, Mr. and Airs. Lysnar, and Air. Pettie, the President. The Ministerial party left by the Tutanekai on Friday night. Personal. Miss Hegarty (Dunedin) is at present the guest of Mrs. Bright. Miss Horn is staying with Mrs. F. J. Lysnar for a short holiday. Miss Jamieson (Auckland) is visiting Mrs. Watson (Waimata) juet now. Mrs. J. Biddles (Tapuae) left on Wednesday to be present at the wedding of M'hs Burke in Napier next Wednesday. Capt. Rainey returned South on Sunday last. Miss Stock (Invercargill) is wintering in Gieborne with her sister-in law, Mrs. G. Stock (Gisborne). Mrs. Morrison (Auckland) is at present the guest of Mrs. C. Thomas (Kaiti). ' ELSA.
