April 16. At Home. The ‘ At Home - ’ given by Air and Airs i. banning Buckland in the Town Hall on
Friday evening was a most brilliant function, about 200 guests being pre* sent. The hall was most artistically decorated with bunting and greenery. The supper room decorations and arrangements were also very striking. Mr and Mrs Buckland received their guests at the entranee to the hall. With them were Air and Airs J. Philips, from The Straits Settlement, in whose honour the ball was given. Air Buckland, seur., was present, and general regret was expressed that Airs Buckland, senr., was not well enough to be there also. Airs C. C. Buckland looked charming in a lovely gown of pale blue Ala rquisette, trimmed with beautiful white lace flounces on the skirt, headed with black ribbon velvet, and at intervals on the velvet were placed blue bells of white laee, the centres being of pale blue chiffon, the bodiee trimmed in the same style, only with a narrower lace; Airs Philips was wearing a rich blue satin gown, trimmed with creme insertion. There were three debutantes, each looking charming. Aliss Gwen. Roberta (debutante) had a most becoming and lovely frock of rich ivory satin, the bodiee having a little vest of fine lace and bretelles of satin and corselet belt, pearl and irridescent trimming was also used on bodice and sleeves, and w-hite ribbon threaded through her coiffure;; she carried a lovely shower bouquet. Aliss B. Taylor (debutante) looked very smart in a lovely frock of white pailette silk made in semi-Empire style, with belt of silver tissue, with silver sequins; the same trimming was used on the sleeves and bordering the corsage; she carried a lovely shower bouquet. Aliss Ida London (debutante) was much admired in a dainty froek of white radium silk trimmed with white chiffon and a touch of silver; she carried an equisite shower bouquet. Airs L. Peake, a becoming dress of palest pink pailette silk, trimmed with silver; Mrs C. Peake, a white silk gauze over white glace; Mrs A. H. Nicoll, heliotrope pailette silk, made en Pfineess, with a panel at side of skirt of heliotrope tulle and silk cord, and the same trimmed formed the vest of the bodiee;’ Aliss Newell (Wellington), white crepe de chine over glace, pink roses on corsage; Aliss Banks, white silk net over glace; Aliss D. Payze looked’ very dainty in white satin charmeuse, trimmed with silver; Airs N. Banks, white crepe de chine made over satin, with a
tonic, and bodice and sleeves trimmed ■with gold passementerie, black velvet entwined in coiffure; Miss B. Buckland, ■white lace dress over glace; Miss Keyes, pale eau de nil satin, trimmed with silver ; Miss \\ illis, white muslin much tucked and inserted with lace; Miss K. Willis, a most becoming froek of white chiffon taffeta; Miss H. Wells, pale blue chiffon taffeta, bodice trimmed with pale blue and pink silk applique; Miss E. Hill, a most becoming froek of pale pink eatin charmeuse made en Princess, the bodice trimmed with bretelles of the silk, tucker threaded with silver eord; Miss Young, black silk and lace gown; Mrs. A. Gibbons, a very dainty frock of white muslin much tucked and inserted with lace made en Princess and pink roses on corsage and in coiffure; Miss Hally, black satin char--mouse made en Princess, corsage relieved with a touch of gold; Miss Ward, white silk trimmed with silver sequins, touches of black and crimson roses on corsage; Miss Richardson looked sweet in a lovely froek of white satin and lace; Miss N. Pickering, white muslin and lace frock; Miss — Pickering, maize coloured silk trimmed with black velvet; Miss Brooks, a most becoming frock of pale pink ehiffon taffeta, bodice trimmed with white net sequined with silver and a pink coronet in eoiffure; Miss Effie Brown looked very dainty in a- white satin frock with silver coronet in coiffure; Miss Chitty, white silk trimmed with mauve, and Neapolitan violets on corsage and coiffure; Mrs. Huddlestone, a very dainty frock of rose pink chiffon taffeta; Miss Williams, a becoming white ehiffon taffeta gown with fichu of white net on corsage and pink roses; Miss M. Taylor, white satin channeuse froek trimmed 'with silver sequins; Miss C. Willis, white silk gown with yoke and sleeves of all-over lace; Miss E. Runciinan (Auckland), a beautiful frock of fine white canvas voile over white glace, it was richly trimmed with silk insertion in the key pattern; and many others. * ELSIE.
