\\ bile Lord Kitchener was in Wellington, the Masonic Brethren under the Grand Ixnlge of New Zealand took the opportunity of presenting him with the handsome illuminated address illustrated above. Several times in the history of Palmerston attempts have been made to organise an amateur athletic (dub. but. until lately, all efforts in this direction have proved fruit less, 'rhe very successful gathering held last week, however, has put the new organisation on a sound basis. The athletes present were large in number, and included many of the crack New Zealand and Australian runners who had taken part in the championship meeting at Auckland.
The late Dr. 11. Walker, an old and respected citizen of Auckland, died last week in his 64-th year. He was Brigade Lieut.Colonel of the New Zealand Medical Corps at the time of his death. See Personal.
